Be careful.. the electric razor used to shape my fade was NOT CLEAN. I’ve been getting fades for over 15 years of my life and never experienced anything like this. After my haircut, I started to develop a bacterial infection along the back and side of my head - all on areas where the electric razor was used. Attached are photos of what my head looks like after 2 weeks….
Update: It has taken over 6 weeks to recover. It was rough and the barbershop texted me to let me know that I was damaging their reputation, disrespectful and providing a damaging review that misrepresented their business. Quite a different response than what they were open to share here publicly on Google reviews...
I also went to a dermatologist who confirmed that I had been exposed to some bacteria which spread throughout all areas shaved with their electric razor - a bacteria likely derived from their equipment. Something was not right and to see this message below TEXTED DIRECTLY to my cell phone felt terrible. They completely dismissed my situation and seemed to have cared A LOT more about telling me how I was in the wrong and about how I was disrespecting them?! Terrible customer service to say the least...
This was their first text to me:
"I’m reaching out to you personally as the owner of Barbers Philosophy because your review deeply concerns me. I pour my heart and soul into this business, and it pains me to see such serious accusations made without first reaching out to us directly.
At Barbers Philosophy, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of hygiene, service, and professionalism. I can confidently say that no other shop in the area takes the level of care we do. Our tools are state-of-the-art, sanitized thoroughly after every use, and our team is dedicated to delivering the best experience possible for every client.
It’s upsetting to think that after just one visit, you’ve formed such a harsh opinion about our shop—an opinion that does not reflect the reality of the care and dedication we put into our work every single day. I wish you had spoken to us directly about your concerns. We would have gladly explained the cause of ingrown hairs (a common occurrence with sensitive skin after close shaves), worked with you to address the issue, and even refunded the cost of your haircut.
Instead, your public review not only misrepresents our business but also unfairly damages the reputation I’ve worked so hard to build. I hope you can understand the weight of your words and how they affect not just me but my entire team. We care deeply about our clients and their satisfaction. If you’d be willing to discuss this further, I’d be happy to work with you to resolve any issues and provide solutions for your concerns. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I truly hope we can move forward with understanding and respect."
100% never going back. Highly recommend Kerel from Mr. Barber which is nearby. Been seeing him for years and not once ever experienced this kind of treatment or been exposed to any kind of rash on my head. Only reason I to this terrible place was because Mr. Barber was relocating. They have since reopened and I plan to NEVER...
Read moreUPDATED 9/2024 Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Barber’s Philosophy. Initially I gave them a 5star review 2 years ago (you can read that below) but, sadly, over the years the quality of service has been completely hit or miss depending on which barber you end up with. Even when I would book with Tatsiana (whose work was usually good) she would often either be busy or uninterested and would fob me off on one of their less experienced barbers. This puts the customer in an awkward position to either reject the waiting barber who’s motioning you to their chair or roll the dice and hope you come out with an at least decent version of how you’d like your hair to look. This happened again when I went to get a haircut around Labor Day, and the cut I got from their newest barber was one of the worst haircuts I’ve ever gotten… and my my hair is pretty easy to cut, no fancy styling or fading or razor work required. Just a basic haircut and trim.
So, can you get a good haircut here? Yes … depending on who you get (that’s why I’m not giving one star) but the customer service is seriously lacking and I can’t recommend thinking of them as your regular barbershop.
One of the best neighborhood barber shops I’ve found and the prices are INCREDIBLY reasonable for Brooklyn! Kind and attentive hair professionals that offer nice extras (like a scented hot towel after the cut) that make it almost feel like a spa experience. My third time here and Alex did an...
Read moreSome of the barbers understand almost no English. I had 3 years of healthy hair growth which was completely chopped up by a barber named Freddie who had absolutely no idea what I was asking him to do. I told him how long to cut and he said “sorry I do not know how long inch is”
The owner will give you whichever barber she decides to give you, even if you book with someone else specifically.
I’m shocked there are so many positive reviews honestly, wouldn’t be surprised if they’re all fake. Yes I was offered my money back but you can’t fix 3 years of hair growth butchered by incompetence.
If you need any haircut other than a very basic one, go elsewhere. Do not risk it here.
Edit: in regards to the owner’s reply, the reason there are so many positive reviews is because the majority of people walk in here for the same 3 haircuts. Don’t risk it if you need anything other than short and...
