I never leave reviews. I give Barneys all the stars. I went here a week ago having just come from urgent care on 13th (never go there, by the way). I had a shard of metal lodged in my throat-no, I have no idea how it got there. I was turned away by the nurses at urgent care because they claimed they could not see the obtrusion-which was odd as I could see it, as could my coworker who also looked down my throat before I went to urgent care. I have photos I took on my phone, nurse still did not seem to believe me and even wanted to swab me for strep. $70 gone & stress levels at about an 8, I went to Barneys looking for a magnet in a last ditch effort to try and coax out whatever was in my throat. The next stop would have been the ER, as the nurse had recommended. Knowing how much an ER visit would cost (as well as the X-rays the nurse said I would need), I decided to stop at the hardware store first. Best decision I could have made. Not only did the guys here give me a magnet to try my hair-brained idea, they also all wanted to see said object that was causing me trouble. After shining a light down my throat not only did they see what I was talking about, they lent me some tweezers and let me use their restroom where I pulled it out myself. And it didn't cost me a dime. These folks are living proof that humanity isn't quite doomed yet. Need you some keys made, a roll of electrical tape, some nails, or some medical advice, go to Barneys. Support this business, these are good people who know what the hell they are...
Read moreAlthough they are in the area, and helpful in a pinch, Barneys Hardware prices are such that they are certainly making up for their high rent in their prices. $30 dollars for a pack of 18guage 1 1/4" brads/nails, when they retail in all big box home improvement centers, AND, local hardware stores NOT in Manhattan for $16-$18 for same brand and quantity.
This not the first time, when working in the area, that a visit to Barneys resulted in doubled prices for anything. Neighborhood residents must enjoy overpaying, and being taken advantage of, but we professional contractors do not. Buyers beware!
Neighborhood folks have a choice, especially since there is a big box center on 23rd street in that area! (The....orange one) Where one does not have to be subjected to price gouging! Shop smart, and not at...
Read moreHad an emergency at work when a client’s luggage handle was broken. After going into a shoe repair store at first when they said there’s nothing they could do to help me so last minute, I walked into Barneys Hardware store looking for super glue for a temporary solution. The guy at the counter explained to me that the super glue won’t work and offered to help me. I went back to retrieve the luggage and he was able to screw the handle back for me! Being in the service industry, I appreciate how he’s gone above and beyond to help me out! He only charged me for the screws at the end! Customer service 100...
