Long story short: nice at first, got harder to communicate with after he got the deposit. It has been 30 weeks in to what was quoted as an 8 week lead time. Nick has 75% of the money, has done 25% of the job. Has made several promises on timeline and not kept his word, painful to communicate with, happy to ignore messages for days or weeks at a time. Seems fine when everything is going ok, painful to deal with otherwise. Hopefully can get a refund, will update as we go.
Details of the experience below.
Nick came to look at two projects in my apartment in late April, shades for four windows and two sets of drapes. About $5,000.
Was good to deal with on the day, easy to talk to. We agreed on the shades and drapes, he said 8 weeks, that was all fine. Very responsive up to this point.
Then he sent the invoice. He charged tax on it twice, but I assume that was an honest mistake. He asked if we pay via Venmo for it to be marked as a friend instead of business so he can avoid the fees (but you also lose protection), which was fine. After we paid the 50% deposit he became much less responsive.
From then on there was a lot of “I’ll check back tomorrow” and no response. In late May he said the latest update was for June 14. That’s ok, on track.
In June he said the drapes would be delayed but he can install the shades. He came to install the shades June 22, and asked for more payment, now has been paid about 75% of the total, much more than just the cost of the shades installed. Latest update was now that the drapes would be ready in July.
Messaged two weeks later on July 10 to ask for an update, no response. Followed up 4 days later, no response. Continued following up every 4-5 days, o response until August. Said he had to travel for a family emergency. Fine, understandable, but no heads up to clients who had been scheduled. Said we are set for installation of the drapes week of September 4.
Messaged August 31 to ask if we could book in a day. No response. Followed up September 2, he said he would get back to me September 6.
Didn’t have any response, messaged him September 8 to ask if he could still make the week he said he would be able to install. No response. Followed up a few days later, still no response. Followed up September 12, Nick says he is going to pick up the drapes tomorrow (?).
Don’t hear anything back. Follow up on September 15 what the plan was, no response. Follow up on September 18, Nick gets back on September 19 and said there was a mistake at the factory that he’s trying to get resolved, and he’s working on a discount.
Follow up on September 21, ignored. Again September 26, ignored. October 3, now more than 2 weeks since the last update, still ignored, no response, very worried about this radio silence, possibly have just had my money stolen and less than half the job done.
On October 7 I say it has been over 20 weeks versus the original 8 quoted, and he has been very difficult to get in touch with, I would like to cancel the remainder of the order and receive a refund on that portion.
He says he will give me a definite answer by the end of the week. End of the week comes and goes, I don’t hear anything from him. I follow up a week later after more silence and missed deadlines. He responds that installed will be November 14 - 17 or a full refund.
Message him November 11 to ask if we can schedule a date, no response. Follow up on November 14, no response. It’s now November 18, he’s missed the 2nd deadline for installation he gave me and has ignored 3-4 messages this week. No idea what the situation is.
I think I’ve been pretty reasonable, but we are now 30 weeks in to what was an 8 week job and Nick is non-communicative and doesn’t seem to care about giving updates or getting the job complete.

I contacted Nick at the recommendation of my neighbor who has been very pleased with their shades. Nick replied and very quickly. I got a quote, which was very reasonably priced. Once I confirmed the order, he came and took the measurements and about a week later, he had all the materials and supplies to install them. Installation was very quick, under 30 minutes. He was super flexible and it was very convenient how he was able to fix into my busy work schedule.
Nick was super helpful throughout the entire process. I had 2 rooms done and told him that the sun comes directly into my apartment and it gets too warm, and he made the best recommendations in regards to color, how much light is let in, and measurements. When the blinds are down, the sunlight still comes in (which I wanted), but the heat stays out. Perfect for summer!
