US Social Security Administration — Local services in New York

My visit to this office was thoroughly unpleasant. I sat in a cold minimally cleaned waiting room for an 1hr & 40min before my number was finally called. Silly me I thought she was going to help me. Once at the window I was TOLD I could make an appointment because it would be along wait. I asked her how long she reiterated “along time” I asked another question and was dismissed from the window with a “Have a seat until they call your name” I sat in that cold room along with elderly people with walkers and wheelchairs for another 1hr and 22 minutes before my name was called. Once you get through the doors “its a whole new world” . There is heat, cleanliness , courtesy and SERVICE!!!. It took the women less than 10 minutes!! to process my paperwork.

REALLY!! WE CAN AND MUST DO BETTER. WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS AND WE DESERVE BETTER NO MATTER...

Extremely disrespectful employees and a poorly run office. I visited on behalf of my mother on disability and dealt with a rude employees and even SS employees i talked to on phone that told me to come in for what had to be done.

A smaller issue was a loud person on the phone in the waiting room. I counted 18 signs saying "please step outside if taking a phone call" and no one stopped this loud from a speaker phone convo about her sex life.

Older people waiting couldn't hear their numbers being called. Kids were present with their parents. Then again, we probably all dealt with disrespectful employees afterwards anyway based on how this place is run.

They view people visiting as "Relying on them" and think everyone will tolerate...

The staff at the Fulton street Office was very helpful in my reason for being there. Even though I was in the wrong center they Still serviced me. They were absolutely Courteous from the Security Staff to the Window Clerk.Especially A Mrs, Moore she was Very Professional and Sympathetic and I found this to be Very Refreshing.. even though the SSI STAFF ARE Very Rude, at times VERY Condescending ( not all,but most are) I was completely Taken Back of the level of Service that I received. It's a shame this is not My Center. I RATE THIS...
