If you have thick hair with coarse strands and a slight wave -- Yuya is your person. My hair type is not as common for an Asian person, so while I went to very talented salons, no matter who I went to, the haircut just didn't seem to work for me. It poofed up and out or was wispy. I chanced upon Bockerway, and wouldn't ya know it. After 15 years of looking and trying to get the perfect short haircut, Yuya understood my hair type immediately and gave me the short hair of my dreams!

He's taught me how to style it but honestly, even on my lazy days (which happen often) it looks really great. Not a triangle or bowl cut but actually really pretty and effortless. That's even more telling of his skill.

Bockerway salon has been my go-to haircut place since it has opened. I've been following Kick around the city for a few years before she opened this place. A haircut here is like nothing I've ever experienced - precision cuts, great styles, and a very spa zen like experience. The Japanese vibe is a big part of the experience (and the owner's background) and is simply a joy -- it is a lot quieter and more peaceful here than your typical NYC salon - something i really appreciate. The air is always fresh and you don't hear loud blowdryers like in other places. The Japanese aesthetic is really nice, especially when a clean well lit place is so important this place really stands out as clean and safe. The location is great, the 80s music is fun, the stylists are cool, and if you are lucky you'll get to hang out with the owner's adorable dog. Get in there while you can because the schedule...

Thank Sweet Baby Jesus for Kick at Bockerway! EVERY time I have an important day coming up and have to look crisp, I pay Kick a visit. I've been a client of Blu Bocker / Bockerway for 2 years+ after being in-between stylists and hairdo ideas, and haven't strayed since. I'm grateful for her spunky energy, funky, pop style, and ability to produce magic from my poor ability to explain what I think I'm going for. Extra points for her knowing how to work with my very straight, thicc hair, and ALWAYS good music playing in the background to talk about. I wish I could carry myself how I feel after leaving her salon everyday....
