Canal Street is very controversial. People from all over the world had visited Canal Street for window shopping and Restaurants. It is not recommended to hire a Taxi on Canal Street for a variety of reasons: First, there's a high volume of vehicles commuting from and into the Manhattan Bridge, which is at the heart of Canal Street and the Bowery. Your Taxi will be expected to move at walking distance to any Train Stations, which will take you to your destination faster. There are a variety of Train Stations located on the WEST of CANAL STREET, and NORTH on the BOWERY at GRAND STREET for your convince. Second, you must be very aware of your surroundings. This Street is packed with tourists, therefore, there's a lot of attractions towards your personal appearance and your expensive electronics. Keep your personal information safe and secure and, PLEASE DON'T BUY "FAKE MERCHANDISE." BE AWARE THAT IS HIGHLY ILLEGAL AND WHEN THOSE SELLERS GET DETAINED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, THOSE BUYERS CAN ALSO BE IN A LOT OF TROUBLE...(meaning you.) Read moreOur adventure started out catching the train to Canal St from Midtown. It was much easier than we anticipated and that's really where the fun starts.
As soon as we walked out of the station, we were approached by "sellers" asking if we were interested in buying a handbag, watch, etc. I'm not going to review that here, but depending on how you view this type of thing, it is possible to find some pretty amazing items.
The sunday we were there, also happened to be the Chinese New Year's parade. Oh, we were soooo excited!! The streets were on overflow mode, but the sights and sounds of ethnic celebration, community partners, and the public-at-large made for a super memorable experience.
We found some great deals in Little Italy and grabbed dim sum in Chinatown. Lots of places are "cash", but there is a Citibank ATM in Walgreens as well as a Bank of America near by.
Visiting Canal St was truly one of the most affordable and entertaining experiences...
