My husband and I, we are both from Romania. We planed a trip to New York and we decided to get married. We prepared a little bit before and I want to share how and what we did. First things we scheduled an appointment at NY City clerk for getting a marriage license ( 3 weeks in advance, the calendar is open every Monday for the next 3 weeks). We lended on Saturday and Monday morning we went to the City Clerk to get our marriage license. We had the appointment at 9, we entered the building, we had to show the passports, they had us on the list. We pre- completed the marriage license application online before. We received a number and we waited for approx 30 min. After that, we appeared to a city clerk official and he requested only our ids and asked where we will get married). We were prepared with the birth certificates translated and notarized but they never asked for them. So only the passport was enough. The next day, we did the ceremony in Central Park ( one friend requested the one day officiant license same day when we took the marriage license, so he was able to officiate the ceremony. Appointment is needed too. We scheduled the appointment one hour after your appointment because he needs our marriage license to fill his form). Same day in the afternoon, had an appointment to record room and our officiant friend was able to bring our signed marriage license and we were able to get the marriage certificate and the extended marriage certificate too (we used the same appointment). The next steps are required if you need an extended apostile marriage certificate to use it in your country: We requested the extended marriage certificate on the city clerk same day when we got the marriage certificate We went to Supreme Court to get another stamp ( it was sort of a certification the marriage certificate is valid) ( step 1 photo at hard) We went to New York State Department to get the apostile ( step 2 photo attached) ( see photo attached To summarize, we needed only the passports, the appointments and 3 days to have everything ( 1st day get the license, second day the ceremony and get the certificate, 3rd day get...
Read moreIncredibly rude. I have emailed and called numerous times since 2020 to see what I need to obtain my mother’s marriage certificate (she lives abroad and needs it for immigration purposes) and every time I called, NO ONE was able to tell me what I needed. Every time I’d call, they would say “I don’t know”, “Just look at the website” or “just email them”. I have emailed and NO ONE has responded. I sent the form to request the marriage certificate along with documentation through mail with proof as to why I need it along with documentation that proves that I’m the daughter (since no one was able to tell me EXACTLY what I needed) and my request got rejected. I went in person with all documentation that proves why I need the marriage certificate for my mother and they didn’t even bother to listen to me. They kept interrupting me and didn’t even look at the documents that I had with me as proof. They just kept handing me the same paper over and over again and were clearly in a rush to get me out of there. They were very unprofessional, unresponsive and utterly unhelpful with no willingness to help me solve this issue. I understand that I need something written from my mother authorizing me to get the marriage certificate but WHY WAS NO ONE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT BEFORE OVER THE PHONE? I have been calling and asking for information for over SIX MONTHS! I am dealing with a time sensitive immigration process with my mother and they were unable to work something out with me.
EDIT : I added pictures that shows that they handed me the same exact document three times and didn’t even realize it because they were in such a rush to get me out of there. The other picture is to show that they didn’t even want to listen to what I had to say and just handed me the form to request the marriage certificate although I already had...
Read moreMy brother passed away in the middle of April, less than 3 weeks ago, I visited NYC for his last days and funerals, and I couldn't stay longer, had to go back to Chicago. His wife and his son have to deal with all the paperwork stuff. Can you imagine how devastated they were already? We are still in disbelief that he is not with us anymore. His wife and his son needed just a verification/authentication for the death certificate they already had in their hands while walked in that facility. The rudest woman on earth worked today - may 2, 2025! She didn't even give them chance to explain what they needed!!! She screamed that they had a death transcript not death certificate! But it was said Death Certificate right under Death Transcript. And I knew it is death certificate, because we paid for it and ordered at the funeral house. How awful and rude that woman was screaming at us and giving no chance to explain! She didn't even have spaces in between her screaming! She screamed: you need to order a death certificate - and we already had it! Another man also ignored our question to help with the appointment type we needed, because the only options they had were to order certificates and we needed to authenticate the one we had. So they screamed at the widow and her son, no sympathy, no chance to explain. I hope their relatives will have same awful experience to get that rude employees death certificates! That's how frustrated I am. Zero stars to these rude people. Maybe they deal with death certificates everyday, but not our family! It is the sadest time for us, and no one has right to be...
