Update: 11/17/2024: Deducting 1 star becuase the showers are disgusting! They are moldy and mildewy. And the worst part is when you bring it up to management, the response is "We're redoing them in the Spring". Well the spring is 6 months away and I would really like them thoroughly cleaned before then. Here are some photos! EW!!! The renovations are great, but seriously, invest in some mildew cleaner and a decent scrub brush!
Now that mgmt has finally put some equipment in this gym, the rating goes up. It used to be huge areas of dead space. Now, however, there is equipment everywhere. Too bad they didn’t think and plan where that equipment would go - in order to do a complete leg workout, for example, I have to do half of it down stairs and half upstairs. Apparently it was too much to think about these whines while moving the stuff in.
Unfortunately, a lot of the equipment is down for maintenance. 1/3 of the upright stationary bikes have been out of commission for more than a week.
The cardio equipment is OK. But few of the stations have their own tv screens. The ones that do don’t work. And the overhead screens - all 10 or so of them are only tuned to 2 stations.
The locker rooms are a nightmare. The women’s is so dark, I had to borrow the flashlight on someone’s cell phone when I got out of the shower to see the combination on my lock. Get more lights or stronger bulbs!!
And as for the showers, which are minuscule, get a hot water heater. I’ve never been to a gym in the city where, on 2 occasions, it took 7 mins for the hot water to come up in the shower.
Having only started working out here, let’s see how y’all stand the rest of time.
Sorry lost a star when I realized just now that the back door to the women’s locker room provides a straight view to the cardio floor of any women coming from the showers in...
Read moreThis place has changed a lot since I joined approximately 3 years ago. Spin bikes have been updated, fresh paint jobs, new equipment and kitschy gear to satisfy the ever finicky workout enthusiast who thrives off of new classes to stay entertained.
This particular location is one of the larger crunch locations and the only to have a rock climbing wall that I cam aware of. There is a yoga studio, a group fitness room and a spin room and a floor primarily dedicated to cardio equipment and the boxing ring. Classes are denser during weeknights based on its location, but the weekend schedule is also nothing to be sniffed at. The locker room is relatively spacious but cannot really keep up with the often stifling late night gymgoers, resulting in a mad dash to find a gym locker that has no lock AND has no clothing already inside of it (finding the former is rather easy).
A few pet peeves I have with the place as it is currently are the following: there is no clear communication between management and front staff, so if you have a question that is something related to management and they aren't there, you have to go around their schedule. If you are an early gym rat who prefers to get in and out this may be a problem for you. the (female) cleaning staff has a tendency to hang about in the actual shower section which makes me a little uncomfortable one of the current sales staff, is not the nicest, and would really benefit from a field less related to positive and friendly customer service 4.there is no pool --not a real peeve as I probably wouldn't use it but just an FYI
Pros have managed to outweigh the cons right now which is why I still call Crunch my home. The idea of no judgements is definitely present here and is not as pretentious as other...
Read moreI signed up for a free trial at Crunch 59th St and was genuinely surprised at how big this gym is, 3 floors total which is wild for a gym in the city. One of the employees was super friendly and gave me a tour when I first walked in, and right away I noticed how everything felt really new and clean since the place was recently renovated.
There’s even a little spa-style room with massage chairs and massage guns you can use, which I thought was such a cool touch, though of course that’s only available for members who pay for a membership that includes it. The locker rooms are honestly one of the nicest I’ve seen at any gym, they’re huge, with plenty of bathroom and shower stalls, and I saw staff cleaning pretty regularly which I really appreciated.
The machines all looked pretty new and well-maintained, and I liked how everything was divided up clearly, an area for arms machines, a section for legs, and then a big open space for stretching or yoga. I also love the new mirrors they added, it makes the gym feel way more open and spacious compared to other Crunch locations I’ve been to.
One of my favorite things was a private room tucked away with bikes, perfect if you wanted a quiet space away from the rest of the gym. The staff here are really nice and you can tell they recognize and know a lot of the regulars who come in, which gives the place a more personal, welcoming vibe.
Overall I feel like there’s so much to do here even with a basic membership, and I’m definitely thinking of...
