As a fine artist living in NYC I was approached by Doors NYC asking if they could display my artwork at their pop-up. After verbally agreeing to their terms and through text conversation I agreed. I did it out of a why not attitude. Help someone out who seemingly had a cool environment, supporting local artists. Mind you- I have work in galleries across the globe and in Museums. They had taken professional photos of models and the work and continue to use it to this day. After about 6 months I was contacted to pick up the work and asked to leave a smaller piece as part of a more permanent gallery wall installation. They were excited about it and so I agreed- no problem. They had told me I would be contacted to pick up the work when they were concluded with displaying it. As I saw images of it over the next year I knew it was being taken care of. When I contacted them again to pick this piece up they told me they could not find it. After another year went by of them “searching for it” I was told too bad. I didn’t sign a contract and they were doing me a favor. So I am out thousands of dollars with no artwork to show and completely taken advantage of. The Success Manager Kristine Papane has repeatedly told me she will not be compensating me for the work - assuming they sold it since it was on the wall the whole time except for when I wanted to get it back. Long story short - a warning to all Artist … even when people seem kind and of good faith even when it’s for a good cause- ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BELIEVE IT. If they tell you no contract is needed- print one out and give it to them. I am passing this to my lawyer and will have no problem getting what I deserve from it as it’s caused issues in other opportunities I’ve had. However- just get a contract. And ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE. They are not for the Artist and certainly not for you. Warning for customers who WANT TO SUPPORT ARTISTS- do not shop here. Clearly the money you are spending on artwork and clothing is not going...

The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable without being pushy, and customer service is always helpful when I have questions or need styling advice.
If you’re into fashion that’s fresh, expressive, and just a bit off the beaten path, this...
