Emerald gem exchange is written on a plastic board on front street in DUMBO, Brooklyn where i reside and have for many decades before gentrification reared its sometimes ugly head. I passed the sign many times and then finally decided to enter the little alley in which i had often walked in to see some mediocre stores. But this one caught my eye as i saw the glistening sacred images of deities and specially of lord Ganesha whom I adore. i stood in front of the entrance many times but did not walk in and always saw a gentle looking man helping some visitors. Finally i was led there by someone who wished to gift me some turquoise beads from New Mexico. That was the beginning of my journey in emerald gem. It is not a jewelry store, it is not a gift store and yet is all the above and much more. When you enter this cave of light, you are entering your inner self or at least the need to find the sounds of your heart vibrations. The energy of this small space captures you and is fragrant with incense and chants. The gentleman behind his desk who is surrounded by all the sacred deities rises to greet you and engages you with his child like smile and candor. He guides you as you guide yourself to find the stone or gem that speaks to you. When you do sense what you need he tells you all about it as he meticulously cleans what you have been given and places it in a singing bowl to finally purify the gem because they all are absolutely pure and not in any way synthetic. He smiles and sometimes has transparent eyes as you lift the gem and place it where you have chosen it to be placed. You leave the glistening cave and you know that you have been enhanced and lifted and healed or are healing. You are pulled to go back and each time it is always at the exact right moment when your soul and your intuitive eye lead you back to this very special sage like man sitting inside his cave of beauty. He told me his name was Siva. How appropriate I thought as I left the jeweled space with a smile and felt the presence of Lord Shiva who dances the universe into being. The energy of the space pulls you back if and when you are ready and open . How can it not. After all light...

SIVA GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND. I visited NYC from Ohio in April 2016 and happened across the Emerald Gem Exchange on my way to meet a friend for lunch in DUMBO. I found an assortment of beautiful carved jade pendants and crystals and selected a jade pendant as a treat for myself. Siva and I had a wonderful conversation about crystals, energy, time he spent in Ohio, and what to do if I wanted to make future purchases. He also cleansed and set intentions for the purchases I made. I saw one pendant that I wanted to purchase for a friend, but decided against at the time. Fast forward to present day, five months later... Her birthday is next month and I scoured etsy and other sites for a carved pendant like the one in his showroom. I found NOTHING on the web like his merchandise. They truly have some one of a kind items. I called Siva, he remembered me from our conversation in April, texted me a photo of the pendant I was searching for, I sent in a payment via paypal, and he delivered the pendant to my friend in Astoria who shipped it to me to give as a gift for my friend. This may sound like a lot for just a pendant, but it really speaks to the uniqueness of the their merchandise, as well as his spiritually-guided business practices. I will absolutely order from the Emerald Gem Exchange again in the future, and will visit the shop in DUMBO on my next trip to see what new treasures I might find.
