UPDATE TO PREVIOUS POST

Went back for two chicken tacos + guac and chips. Chicken was dry and toppings were not as flavorful as my memory had me believe. Tried guac and chips for first time, overall meh flavor and guac consistency was not for me.

Shortly after, I did not feel well with stomach "issues" and given this was lunch and my first meal of the day; felt confident that it was attributed to this. Being local, I went to explain the situation and suggested it may be the guac.

Unfortunately, and this is the reason I am writing this update - the owner/ manager failed to assume any accountability for the issue. He reiterated multiple times that the guac is made fresh daily, and questioned me more than 1-2x whether I had a food allergy. I found this rather surprising and did not appreciate deflecting the situation on me. My mistake was suggesting the guac, as it became the focus of the majority of the conversation.

While food is made fresh daily, it also needs to be stored and refrigerated properly. When you see the salsas and other ingredients are set out without ice or refrigeration, you cannot deflect on the customer. Don't know about the guac as I didnt see it before I got the bag, but the point is this: treat your customers appropriately and take some accountability in circumstances like this, especially when you are running a restaurant. Needless to say, I cannot recommend nor will I return to this place.

PREVIOUS POST FROM 5 MONTHS AGO:

Other reviews had me hesitant to try, glad that I took a leap of faith today.

Ordered a chicken taco — meat flavor was so-so, but the portion was huge, salsa verde was solid. Tortilla was fine, not greasy.

Clean and fast, it’s not a top 5 contender but will...

OMG...i was looking forward to trying out this place. What a world of difference service can make on your opinion. The twenty something year old male who was minding the cash register was not only petty but arrogant and obnoxious. He was devoid of customer service experience. For example, the salad leaves were generally wilted and should not have been served. His response to requesting either something in exchange or our money back "we do not do refunds or exchanges." Second, he wouldn't let any of us try the rice milk before making an order! When asked if we could sample it before we make a decision, he obnoxiously remarked "would you be allowed to sample coke?" I think the owner needs a fast replacement because my family will not patron a place that has good food but poor service. This twenty something year old, who wanted to remain anonymous, looks and acts like he wishes he was anywhere else but at the restaurant tonight, October 14. If you see this guy with the black hair waiting on you, turn around and run for to the competition! Don't let him ruin your evening!

so i went back again last night and a new young guy was manning the register. this person refused to give my 8 year old water from the sink. REFUSED. Said I was forced to BUY a Poland spring water for $3.50!!! He also stated that his boss is always watching the cameras that show what he is doing. I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK AGAIN, NEVER. THE SERVICE POLICY IN THIS PLACE IS BY FAR THE WORST I EVER EXPERIENCED...

I visited this restaurant and was disappointed by their policy of not allowing customers to sit unless they are consuming. Sometimes people want to wait for friends, rest a moment, or look at the menu before deciding, but staff made it clear that seating was only for paying customers. My husband went inside to place the order while my daughter and I waited outside. A worker came out just to let us know that we weren’t allowed to seat if we were not customers. Like why not to first ask if we needed any help. I understand that restaurants need to prioritize tables for diners, the way it was handled felt unwelcoming. A more flexible or polite approach would make the experience much better.

Updated 10/19: The OWNER response We only have six seats Next time try to park Thank you.

We did come to eat at your restaurant — my husband went inside to place our order while my daughter and I took a seat to wait. So we were in fact customers. I completely understand that seating is limited, but a little patience or a polite question before assuming otherwise would have made a big difference. It’s disappointing to see such a dismissive response instead of an effort to understand what...

Our corporate office moved from Chelsea to DUMBO, and one of the biggest losses was Los Tacos No. 1 in Chelsea Market. 😭 Word spread quickly that there was a new taco joint near the new office bearing the same name, so a few of us ventured in for lunch today, and arrived to a line trailing out of the door. Unfortunately, long lines don't always correlate with quality. Los Tacos Al Pastor is a very small, unassuming place with no seating. It looks like it tries to emulate its Chelsea cousin in style and menu, but that is where the similarities end. It lacks in flavor, and you can see this plainly in observing the meat on the spits, which lacks the char and seasonings which give Los Tacos No. 1's meats their color. The flavor profile at Al Pastor is much milder, and there aren't as many options on the menu. (Where's the beef?!) That said, Los Tacos Al Pastor remains a solid option around DUMBO, and a step above Taco Dumbo. I was really happy to see they had piña (pineapple) flavored Jarritos, and that the lines moved very quickly, given the lack of tourists. Enjoy but know there is no comparison to el primero en Chelsea.

In one word - overpriced. In detail - the girl at the register provided good service. No issues here. Prices went significantly up since the last time I came here. It's now $5 / taco! (Al-Pator). This is beyond expensive, but the taco-truck wasn't there today and I was craving tacos. For that much you'll have high expectations, right? Well, lower them. Mediocre at best (but they look good!). They have their little station for lime, peppers, and hot sauce, just don't ask for a condiments container of you take your food to go! The cook just told me they don't carry any and to put it directly on the taco (BTW, they used to carry them). Now we all know what happens to a tortilla when it's wet for more than a few minutes, right? I had my tacos to-go and by the time I got to the office it was soggy and falling apart. Not even double tortillas 🤔 I've been working here before they opened. Back then the taste was better and obviously cheaper. I understand inflation, rent, etc but $5 per taco (that's not even great) is high. I won't be back. Today was my last time.
