WARNING - IF YOU ARE A MINORITY AND HATE BEING FOLLOWED WHEN SHOPPING DO NOT GO HERE.
My wife and I are in our early 30s and grocery store shopping is a fun time for us lol. We have lived a few minutes away from this location for a few years now. We had seen a sign for this supermarket a while before its grand opening and we were excited because we usually like to go to queens for our grocery shopping. We gave this place a try today and we went with our toddler. The store is beautiful, the guys working at the cold cut meats section were nice, and the cashier was very sweet, but unfortunately being followed the entire time by different security guards and other employees completely took away the joy. I noticed this when I walked in and realized that security were closely watching some African American customers but the white and Asian customers were free to roam worry free. As soon as we walked in and walked over to the fruit section I could feel security looking as us. I’m dressed professionally after work, and my wife is also nicely dressed. Every isle, every nook and cranny we were being watched. People having fake cellular conversations coming from the back to stand where we were for no reason. Idk how to explain the feeling but if u know u know. I didn’t even want to spend more time in there to get their free members card to save money on my purchase because I knew I would never return. The cashier was amazing. My wife told me once we left that she felt as if we were being followed by different people the entire time, from security to other employees. This showed me that I was not the only one that noticed all the weird interactions.
The fact that most of the employees and security guards were of our same race and possibly nationally hurts the most.
I feel horrible for the people of this community that will face this similar discrimination for the years to come. Do...
Read moreI've heard from tons of other people but shrugged it off because people tend to be overdramatic. When I decided to do some shopping here, I realized everyone was right about the staff. They have these loss prevention employees that follow your every move to a point where it's uncomfortable to browse for anything. No matter where you go, you bump into these guys with the supermarket uniform who try to make it look like they're shopping next to you or behind you, but they're just stalking people at every turn that you make. Supermarket is very nice and has a very big selection but it's no use being nice if those guys harass to a point where they make you wanna take your business to a place where they'll actually treat you like a paying customer and not like a thief; which is what I did: I went somewhere else and paid them my very hard earned money for my groceries. Management needs to stop that clown show if it's them the ones giving those horrible directions to their floor staff and/or find a better method for surveiling. Bunch of goofy, peabrains acting like they work for the...
Read moreI can't believe I even have to write this. I live in the area with my fiance and shop here, truly, three times a week. I cannot imagine how much money we have spent here over the past few months as our daily grocery store. The staff is normally quite friendly. Today my fiance went to the store without me, and during his shopping picked up a moderately expensive spice, which he proceeded to put in his cart. Yes- a spice. He was then followed (stalked really) up and down the aisles as he continued shopping by the security guard until he reached the checkout. This is not the first time this has occurred by certainly the most egregious.
He has tattoos and feels he was targeted for how he looks.
The security guard and the management that employees him should be embarrassed for their discriminatory behavior. Shame on the security guard who has nothing better to do than try to harass and intimidate people...
