I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a delightful journey to Governor Island via the ferry, and let me tell you, it was an absolute treat! If you're looking for a fantastic weekend adventure that won't break the bank, I highly recommend catching the ferry to Governor Island before 12 p.m. when it's free. Trust me; you won't be disappointed!

Very straight forward 10-minute ride from lower Manhattan to Governors island.

Timed tickets can be purchased online and cost $5 round trip for adults. Adults 65 and over, children 12 and under, NYCHA residents, IDNYC holders, Military servicemembers and Governors Island members are free. There are also a few free rides early during the weekend...befire 11am I believe.

Easy public transportation access to the ferry terminal using the 1 South Ferry Station or the R/W Whitehall Street Station. Both are a block or two away from the ferry terminal. The 4/5 Bowling Green Station is a bit further about 4 blocks away.

There is a small coffee shop at the Terminal.

The ferry runs frequently, about every 30 minutes. You show your timed ticket to the agent and then wait in the terminal's waiting area. Once the ferry arrived, it will take some time to unload the vehicles and passengers they are bringing back from Governors Island. Once unloaded, you can board the ferry.

There are two levels...lower and upper. Lots of indoor seating space on both levels to offer shade. Some may choose to ride outside to take in the amazing views of lower Manhattan, Governors Island and even the Statue of Liberty.

There is NO food or drinks for sale on the ferry.

There is a well-marked area where you can wait to board on Governors Island for your return trip to Manhattan. Return rides back to Manhattan also run every 30 minutes.

All staff throughout the trip were very nice and efficient.

There are two other ferry options to get to Governors Island: Brooklyn Bridge (Pier 6) ferry and the Red Hook/Atlantic Basin ferry...but these are only available on the weekends and...

March 2024.... Parked at a public garage $40 across the street for all day. Then, there was a complimentary 10-minute ferry ride. Arrived at check-in, you are given a bracelet with a key for your locker and another bracelet if you don't use apple Pay to charge any other ammentaties. I lost my bracelet and reported it to the front desk to deactivate my card. I was told they could not deactivate my card until I checked out. ( In the meantime, if someone else finds my bracelet, they can charge anything to my card on file, and I would have to dispute it with my bank). I was annoyed, but I went about my spa day anyway. It was a very nice and relaxing experience. I wish there were pockets in the robe that were provided. I recommend bringing your own water bottle so you can fill it up bc they provide you with small cups. There was a lot of construction going on at this time, too. The food was expensive ($24) for a meal. You can bring your own snacks in your bag. The place was clean with a rustic Italian ambiance. The Sauna rooms were small, so not a lot of people at once. The steam rooms had a minty scent and a eucalyptus scent in another room. It was a great experience overall and would go again. The staff was really friendly too. The water that was provided was flavored ( lemon, mint, apple cidar.) The Showers were clean that provided shampoo, conditioner, and body gel soap. Flip flops were provided, too. I...
