Reply to owner: Thx for sharing your POV. However, all discussion was made BEFORE the undercut even started. If none of these were possible why didn't he say something instead of "I like it." and mentioned "disconnect"? Also, pls see pic (2 pinks, 1 red). Multiple do have undercuts. As I said in the salon, I showed multiple styles because I don't know what will work. So it's an open discussion with the professionals. Also, most importantly, AGAIN, I told him I had been growing the sides for months so that the sides of the undercut can be on the same level and that the undercut was VERY important to me. Why would I grow them for months just so you can shave it all off? You are the professional, if you have questions, why don't you ask? I was there for almost 2 hrs.
Original: The owner, Magda, and the reception people are very nice. I appreciated Magda waiving the cost and stepping up to damage control.
WARNING: Do NOT let this person, Victor, touch your hair.
I walked out with a prison hair cut (almost a buzz cut with a patch of hair on the apex and front of my head sticking up and both sides and back shaved) that I never asked for and thoughts of un.alive myself. NOTE: I walked in with an overgrown undercut and a thick ponytail down to my shoulders (see pic).
The more I think about it, the more this person's behavior is unacceptable and unprofessional.
Short points. (Long story follow) Ignored my request completely but say "yes", "sure", "ok" as I am telling him what I'm looking for and showed him pictures asking his professional opinion. (Which is truly laughable in retrospect) Kept on cutting and shaving when he knew he messed up instead of communicating. Blame my hair texture, finding excuses, and this is a misunderstanding/ miscommunication, with maybe 1 half-hearted apology (if there was any) after I noticed the cut is waaaaay off and there is no hair at the back of my head.
Long story: Beginning was all great. He asked what i want. I told him EXPLICITLY that my no.1 priority is to even the left and right side of my undercut. And I had been growing for months so that the shorter side would have length to be kept which would make the dividing easier. He said ok, np. And then I said im also looking for thinning as my hair r thick, heavy, and stubborn. Then , I said, EXPLICITLY, if he feels comfortable, and only if he feels comfortable, I asked at least 3 times, and it is if only he feels comfortable, then I'm also hoping to have a new short hair style. NOYE: I walked in with a thick pony tail down to my shoulders. He said "yes" very firmly. I showed him the pics (see pic) and asked for his opinions and pointed out, EXPLICITLY, for the red hair, it only showed the back. He reassure me and said he will give me a bang of the length to the eyebrow. Hair cut started. He kept the hair I grew when he was fixing the undercut. Then he moved on to the style. I closed my eyes when he worked on the bang. I peeked and I saw the eyebrows length bang. So I closed my eyes again. I don't like ppl watching me work so I always try to give people space as well. It took at least 30min. My rear end starting to hurt. I peeked here and there but my hair was wet and I couldn't see the back or the sides. And he kept saying "almost done." So I thought everything was OK. But it was taking a long time and I could tell he kept on cutting, hair small chunks of hair kept falling, which didn't feel right. I eventually asked him to show me the back, and thats when I found out there was no more undercut. My entire back and sides are gone. The part I specifically grew for months and asked him to save, is gone. I was horrified but I'm trying my best to hold my composure. When I pointed out this was waaaaaay too short, his first reason was to ask me to show the pictures again. Then he said, when he started cutting, my hair is sti..........
Words limits. Please see pic for the rest of the review.
I hope one day I can come back and change this rating. But right now, I hate...
Read moreI have loved coming to Hairarri in the past, and I always get a great cut from Vinny. I needed a trim very badly and I decided to take a chance and go with Victor, as Vinny was fully booked. After arriving for my appointment, I ended up waiting about 40 minutes to be seen. That would have been fine had I enjoyed the actual haircut. After showing some pictures and talking about how I want to preserve some of my curly bangs and length in the back for a curly mullet, Victor proceeded to cut my hair as if it is PIN STRAIGHT (its not). I told him that I use a curl cream and warned him to not take too much off as my hair shrinks alot when it dries. Essentially he gave me a 60's mod cut, absolutely nowhere near what I asked for. He cut it in such a way that it only looks presentable when my hair is straightened. I made it VERY clear that I only wear it curly as possible (I walked in there with a huge curly mop of hair and reiterated it multiple times). At the end he asked me if I want any product in it, and I said curl cream. He responded with "No curl cream is too heavy for your hair" (its not), and proceeded to put a POMADE in. Like are you serious? Pomade is way heavier than curl cream, and its not the product I asked for. I came home and cried so hard, and I've been trying to salvage whats left of my hair. It is genuinely not even close to what I asked for. It's way too short to be considered a "trim". I try to be as forgiving as possible with this kind of stuff, but after checking his instagram and seeing that he has given the exact haircut I asked for to other clients, I decided I had to say something. Im not sure if he had some vendetta against me or he just was not up front about his ability to cut curly hair, but I'm very unhappy with the overall experience I had. I absolutely would go back to Vinny, as he has demonstrated his listening ability and gives great cuts, but I cannot justify paying 90$ for that kind...
Read moreI made an appointment with Nick at Hairrari Barber-East Village and had mission-- to chop off 12 inches of hair! The staff met me at the door and greeted me with smiles, face masks and a forehead thermometer. I really appreciate the precautions the shop took to maintain a safe indoor environment.
Nick and I got to work fast, where the only time I took off my face mask was when he asked to see my full face to get a good idea of my ideal haircut. I absolutely appreciate a professional using his understanding of face shapes to pinpoint a hair style that would most flatter mine.
Nick asked lots of questions about what I wanted, and I could tell that he was listening. The hair cut that we came up with was a first in execution for him, but he was extra careful with the scissors and took lots of dedicated direction from his boss. I wasn't ever nervous about the scissors snips, because the guy making them was intent on doing a good job.
Nick was friendly and honest. He even asked if I preferred to be called "Kim" or "Kimberly," which was nice to hear, since most people take it upon themselves to use the shortened version of my name. This further highlighted Nick's goal of creating a comfortable appointment for me and catering to my wants and needs.
And my hair turned out great! I am so glad to have discovered Hairairi Barber- East Village. It's a small style shop that's big on friendly, helpful folks who make it their mission to make others look...
