Been to 6 different physical therapy/ medicine offices, and Dr. David Jung is the best for anyone who wants to get back into the game strong, with confidence, while minimizing pain. In my case this meant getting back to climbing after a traumatic shoulder injury - a dislocation. Dr. Jung is a climber himself as well as a master of seemingly all physical disciplines, hardened with military training, and he exudes a steadfast competence and caring bedside manner that put me at ease right away.
Unlike other practices, you are with the doctor the entire time. Heād work on the body to ease pain and address any discomfort, then progress to warmups and exercises, building steadily from gentle to more strenuous, forming good habits along the way. Iām the kind of person who needs to know whatās going on and why, and Dr. Jung was happy to oblige. He taught me anatomy of the shoulder + the injury, described the role of the muscles involved, and explained the physiology of the movements we did and their importance for stabilizing + strengthening the shoulder throughout all the positions/ rotations. And he doesnāt mind repeating whenever I need a refresher.
The purpose of physical medicine is to heal and strengthen but also, crucially, to prevent future injuries. Dr. Jung taught me to improve my climbing form and reduce risk of injury by emphasizing scapular retraction - keeping them down and back. He armed me with exercises to perform before activity to prepare the body for strain. I was initially hesitant to weight the shoulder, but as I saw how closely he was tracking my progression through therapy and training, I trusted that he knew when it would be safe to do so. I had an unrelated leg issue one day (from running) and he took care of that too. Here is a person who truly loves helping people and seeing them get back to the activities they love.
In sum, Dr. Jung is a genuinely good person and a fantastic physical medicine practitioner and personal trainer. Impressive work ethic too. Really a one stop shop, and I especially recommend him to my climbing folks; heās located close to the Cliffs rock gym in LIC, very convenient. A year later and I still remember what he has taught me. If you want quality, private care tailored to your needs, this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDr. David is incredible physical therapist. Through my sessions with him I have learned so much about how to train safely and how different muscle groups come together to balance joints. I came to him with an sore hip that had been bothering me off and on for months, but quickly turned debilitating after a long hike one weekend, to the point where I was having trouble walking and even sitting. Dr. David, was very thorough throughout my physical therapy experience. At the start he was careful ask a lot of questions to figure out what might have happened to cause my injury. As a climber, it as great to speak to a fellow climber who understood the mechanics of the various moves where I had felt pain. I was also very impressed that at the start of my PT, Dr. David was sure to ask if I had seen an orthopedist or planned to and helped me set up a plan B if physical therapy was not helping (which would have meant the injury had affected the joint) and I would need an orthopedist appointment. He knew all the details of the insurance process and made sure the timeline for appointments would workout if we had to move to plan B. Luckily, PT was successful and I was able to work with Dr. David and heal my hip injury. After a number of weeks of hard work and Dr. Davidās expert care and guidance, I am now pain free and back to being able walk long distances and run :) ā One is the best things about working with Dr. David is he was very careful to point out my weaknesses or where I needed to pay attention during certain exercises to do them right. He also provided videos of me doing the exercises so I could watch at home and recall just exactly how to do them to focus on the right muscle groups. These videos were so helpful! I also must say that during my treatment we had to move from in-person to video appointments due to COVID, and all of our video appointments were wonderful as well. Overall Dr. David is an amazing physical therapist. Thank you so much for helping me get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI initially started going to Lion Physical Therapy to treat chronic shoulder pain, and I wish I had started much earlier rather than waiting for it to be so severe! I was hesitant at first, as Iād never thought to work with a physical therapist before (we think itās ānormalā to have these aches and pains), but from the first session I was so at ease. Thereās no judgement, only care, and they really work with you and the level youāre at. I was also really impressed by the thoughtfulness of their treatment plan and the results each week. I love that they record exercises so itās easy to refer to them later, and they also explain how/why they work in easy to understand terms (I've learned so much!). I was also consulting with an orthopedic surgeon at the time, and they were amazed at how quickly I was able to improve with PT alone. What could have required a procedure or taken more than a year of work, was able to improve drastically in a few months. Later on, when I developed different injuries, I canāt express how much peace of mind I had knowing I was already working with the right team who would be able to help me get back on my feet.
The care really extends beyond the sessions too. They gave advice to improve my work-from-home setup, and all the exercises Iām given are modified to work with the limited equipment I have. They also have gone above-and-beyond, as I was injured once on vacation, and Lion Physical Therapy were not only ok with me reaching out when I wasnāt sure what to do, but they also followed-up and checked-in with me to make sure I was ok.
I canāt thank the Lion Physical Therapy team enough. I feel incredibly fortunate that I found them to work with. I wouldnāt hesitate to recommend them to anyone, as they've really opened my eyes to what a great physical therapist can doāand theyāre such...
