I've been coming here for a while, and it's always been great. They're super friendly, remember your name and give solid haircuts. But I went yesterday and got completely butchered. The cut makes no sense, there are uncut hairs everywhere and it's so short in certain areas it won't sit down. I don't think the guy spoke English well, but I showed him a picture. At one point I stopped and asked, "Are you sure this part will sit flat, it seems too short" Which he understood as "Shorter" so he took more length off ensuring it won't sit down.
It's nothing like what I asked for, which would be fine if it looked OK. It looks like someone had the same experience recently, and I wish I got the guys name so people could avoid him. The other guys I've had have been great, but even when paying Yuri asked how my cut was and his eyes went straight to the parts of my hair sticking straight up trying to make sense of it. I can't bring myself to give one star, but the risk of getting this guy isn't worth it. Ask for Yuri,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had an all-around excellent experience at LEDO! I live in the neighborhood and was so happy when it opened because options are pretty much non-existent in the Hunters Point area. Fortunately, this barbershop has a lot of wonderful things going for it:
The owner, Ledo, is so welcoming and cuts great hair. From booking the appointment to the cut itself, Ledo was very down to earth and friendly. You get the vibe that he enjoys what he does and cares about the quality of the cuts. The shop is very nice, it has all the best elements of a traditional barbershop with some upgrades. It's nicely decorated, has a good vibe, is clean and located around the corner from the 7 train. *I've been to other shops in LIC/Astoria and they definitely don't feel as welcoming as this one. The price is surprisingly affordable. The same haircut would cost $20 more at other barbers in Manhattan and Williamsburg.
Altogether, LEDO did not disappoint. I strongly recommend swinging by to check it out...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIve had my hair cut three times at this place, and already it's the best barber shop I know: After you go into the big Citi building and walk down a short flight of stairs, you'll find yourself in a small but polished venue where Yuri, Sal and Benny will be prepared to work (or already working.) It'll be clear, even if you know nothing about their profession, that their expertise in hair is the real thing. They'll know what you want better than you will, and even if you describe your preferred style in awkward ambiguity they'll pick up on every word. They'll style your hair until it's crisp and clean as can be, and even give general tips on how to preserve your style. I say all this only having been styled by Yuri, but having seen Benny and Sal do their work and reading these on-point reviews, I think my generalization of them is a safe one. When you visit them, be sure to remember their names, because they sure as hell won't...
