Despite seeing some mediocre reviews, we took the chance and hoped for a memorable experience like the ones advertised on social media. We will definitely remember this experience as one of the worst. We wanted to walk out in the middle of the service, but we tried to stay positive, patient, and cordial as I’ve worked in tough customer service industries and empathize.
We were one of two parties in the empty shop. We observed the other party receiving calm, professional guidance and experience from one of the three employees present. Maybe if we were paired with her this would have resulted in a positive experience, or maybe if we went to the SoHo location where my friend had a great time.
The first few minutes of greetings and product intro were decent, and then it was downhill from there. We were hoping for a personable experience with recommendations and guidance. Instead we were given the impression that any question, decision, or request was an extreme bother or nuisance to them. We’re given a board of 6 swatches to try to get it to be the right color, but from the very first swatch when we asked for an adjustment to color they were audibly and noticeably bothered.
One of the employees were argumentative from start to end, and made the whole process and experience additionally unbearable. She was argumentative about the questions I asked, or color suggestions made. We wanted to walk out in the middle of the process, but didn’t want to be disrespectful so we tried to stay patient and pleasant.. It was my first (and definitely last) time going so I wasn’t sure which product I wanted to get prior to even selecting the color so I wanted to sample each of the finishes regardless of color, but it was like pulling teeth to get a sample. It’s as if they rather us pick something off the shelf.
Aside from the main issue of customer service, they told us that a lot of them have art backgrounds and understand color theory. As someone who’s been in the art and design industry for decades, I wanted to mix the colors myself at one point. The swatch colors kept getting worse, so I tried to be more and more descriptive and pointed to the colors I would mix to achieve the color I was working towards. Not only did I have to sit through condescending and argumentative comments, but I ultimately ended up “settling” for the best of the 6 swatches so that this experience could finally come to an end.
At that point I just wanted to be done with this whole nightmare, and I thought I would be now that the selection and interactive process was over. I observed as the mix was made. My product was mixed at too high a temperature. I saw the mixture bubbling rapidly. When it was poured into the mold, it spilled over and got uncomfortably too close to the other mold mix. I was concerned for the other mold getting mixed with my mix. In addition to the excessive heat of the mix because of the fast pour the mix had a very noticeable dip in the center, which also means I did not get a full product’s worth.
The interactive process was abysmal and far from personable, and the execution to the whole abysmal experience was poor. We weren’t even told about the additional products. After the product cooled I tried it on hours later hoping that I could have purchased a product I might at least like from this negative experience, but it didn’t match the color swatch even after applying multiple layers. The price was way too much for the experience and final product. I would’ve faired far better by going to any beauty supply or drugstore and getting a product off the shelf. (For example I’ve had far better experiences with the staff at BlueMercury in Union Sq where I know I would’ve found a product I would’ve been FAR happier with.)
It really put a damper to the remainder of the day. Many other reviews expressed the same sentiments. I would be shocked to see this location last after this social media hype because there definitely won’t be repeat customers if this is how they continue forth with...
Read moreThe idea of this place is great! Loved making my own lipstick and gloss however I think an hour isn't enough time to come up with two choices each, per person, with 1 especially if you're a beginner. ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE $115+
Me and my best friend visited a week or so ago, we reserved for the 5:45pm slot, would not recommend. (I didn't realize the place closed at 7). It was super busy so we just waited to be seated, around 6 we sat with Gabby (I think) super sweet and informative, she mentioned that she just finished training and she would walk us through everything.
A little time passed and as she's creating Lippi's for my bestie, another associate decided to help her and take me. (Wish she didn't) It stated off good, I'm a beginner so I wasn't too sure what I wanted. We tried a few things and I didn't like any of it on me. the colors were nice just not for me. I felt like I was annoying her with my indecisiveness and I started to feel rushed. There was on specific moment where I was still checking out the shade on lipstick and she repeated ok lip gloss maybe 4 times. I literally had to blank stare at her before advising that I'M STILL LOOKING AT THE LIPSTICK. Honestly my bestfriend was done and I gave up looking for a color so we could just leave faster. Luckily the manager came over to help with so much more patience. I told her it felt like the store closed an hour ago, Although I was already over it, she allowed me to feel comfortable enough to continue the experience and get what I paid for.
Even though my lip gloss has the wrong scent, I was satisfied with the colors we made. Currently in contact with the store via email for an exchange just waiting to have a complete order and wear my $130 worth. (Because ofc I...
Read moreI came across LipLab when I was on IG one day. I am so happy I did. I wanted to do something different for my birthday, so I wrote an email requesting information about a private party. Customer service got back to be pretty quickly. They forward my request to Rachel the store manager. Rachel and I spoke about what the private party entailed. She was helpful and answered all my questions. To host a party, you need to leave a deposit to secure your date. I highly recommend doing so because they book fast. The day of the party they had a total of 5 to 6 lipstick specialist working with my party of 10. We had the place to ourselves from 6-8pm on a Saturday. They have a large selection of colors to choose from. However, if your looking for gold or neon lipsticks they will not have those colors. The process of making the lipsticks is pretty cool. They have a color palette to mix the colors on. They start with 2 to 3 colors. They ask want finish you want ( matte, satin, sheer etc) After they mixed they have you try it on. If you don’t the color, no worries they continue to mix different combinations until you get the right color of you. Once you have your perfect shade they ask you to pick an flavor, ( mint, lime, vanilla, or mango) The last step is to name it! I wish I could remember all the ladies names that worked with us that day. They were all very nice and hospitable. I highly recommend getting a group of your friends or family to go check them out. Only bad thing about this place is that they don’t have a bathroom on site. And if you love lipstick you might end up giving them all your money lol. If you prefer lipgloss they have some to buy but not to make. Over all a great experience for me. Will...
