Great spot for tastey tacos in Williamsburg. We have passed by before and always noted the large crowds. So it must be good. That put Esse taco on our to do list.
There wasn't a long line to order. The kiosks are just as you walk inside. There is a sink by the door to wash your hands which is a nice touch. We took the food to go but decided to dine at one of the outside barrel tables. Great idea to have those. Not too big but just right. Can fit meals for about 2 people. Otherwise, there are two sit down tables outside infront of the murals. However those are ussually taken.
We went with the entree containing all 4 types of tacos. Todos los tacos. The mushroom grilled taco was amazing. I highly recommend. The steak taco was equally good. The chicken was yummy. Quesidilla... that was just ok.
Bae got guac cause bar loves guac. The guac was fresh and delicious. I could see chunks of fresh avocado mixed in.
We went with the teas as drinks. The hibbicus was a but tartbbut that didnt stop me from ejoying it to quench my thirst.
After our meal we were feeling full but not that overlly full feeling. I would hit this spot up again if in the area and looking for a quick bite keeping in mind the wait time from order to receiving the food could be a little long. Otherwise it was a pleasant...
Read moreA good friend of mine had highly recommended Esse Taco and I finally had the chance to visit this weekend. Having eaten at a few of Enrique Olvera's restaurants including Cosme and Alta in New York as well as Pujol in Mexico City, I came with high expectations. Incredibly, the experience was even better than anticipated! While more casual, the atmosphere buzzes with energy, and the food is Mexican cuisine at its finest.
My favorite was the ribeye steak taco, which was super flavourful, closely followed by the pork with pineapple butter. Both are must-haves! I ordered them as ‘gringas’ and the chihuahua cheese was a great addition. I also really liked the guac and totopos and the cornhusk meringue ice cream.
The restaurant is more than just food. The design, music and overall vibe make it feel authentically Mexican and incredibly inviting. It’s the perfect spot for meeting friends over a few Margaritas as well as grabbing a quick dinner on the way home.
My only minor suggestion would be a spicier salsa option, but that’s just personal taste. Overall, Esse Taco has become my favorite taqueria in New York and I can’t...

I’ve been a fan of this taco spot since the early days — the street taco, quick-and-go, Mexico stand-style vibe was what made it so special. I came out one week just for the mushroom taco, only to find they were sold out. No big deal, I made the long commute again the following week — but the recipe had completely changed.
Now it’s a pricier version (almost $9 per taco), packed with fancy greens. Don’t get me wrong — it’s very tasty, but it feels like the whole concept shifted. I asked the guy in the kitchen what happened to the old mushroom taco, and he said this one is “higher quality.” Maybe so, but honestly, the people just want regular street tacos — affordable, simple, and packed with flavor. That’s what gave this place its magic.
I’m not coming here to eat creative or upscale Mexican food — that was never the point. I came for the classic taco stand energy, and I just hope that essence doesn’t get lost.

As a Mexican, this quesadilla is embarrassing. Total was...
