I wanted to reach out to share my feelings on my experience in your stores. I have made purchases at the business on 3 separate occasions. The first, I arrived with my baby in hand. The sales staff was so outrageously rude, unacommodating, and unkind. I went OUT of my way to smile and be polite even after I felt the very negative vibe. Each and everyone of the sales staff was cold and not even ONE smile or a feeling of normal sales associate kindness was displayed. I put my feelings to the side and came back a second time because the store is basically the only of its kind in the area. On the second visit it was the SAME! I just shopped quietly spent my money and got out of there as quickly as possible. The paper store has a TOTALLY different vibe. The young woman who was in there on both occasions alone was BEYOND kind... BEYOND sweet and helpful and just light and smiling I cannot speak negatively of that experience at all.
My partner recently went to pick up a Valentine gift for me on the 13th.. imagine my surprise when he asked if I had been to Lockwood I told him yes I like the shop but the people were very rude.. HE SAID HE HAD THE SAME EXACT experience. The staff was rude, cold and nasty to him as well. AND he also pointed out that his experience at the paper store was positive and upbeat. I did not tell him how I was treated when I went so I am very disappointed that he felt the same way after spending money in your shop. I am a black woman and I don't know if that had anything to do with the way I was treated my partner is Puerto Rican. I truly feel there is an issue at the shop and I needed to reach out and say something.
People come in to spend money and get cute things we dont come there to be disrespected neglected and treated poorly. Shout out to the woman in the paper shop she has the right kind of attitude for sales... but those women in the main shop- they ALL need a...
Read moreI love this place. I recently moved to Astoria and immediately started following every and all things Astoria on instagram to find out what to do and where to go. This was a homerun find. The first time I went, I didn't realize there were 2 shops -- I was very confused when I walked into the clothing boutique and didn't see any of the home/gifts that I'd been seeing on Instagram. Left somewhat disappointed, as that was what I came for. Soon after that, I realized there was a second shop just a few steps down the side street -- totally missed that...we'll blame that on the fact that it was dark, and nighttime.........
Went back to see what the second shop was like - loved it. I bought some holiday gifts and made a mental checklist of all the items I am sure I am going to go back and purchase for myself when I'm done buying for everyone else. Eclectic items, fun items, Queens-pride items - and all quality. You could honestly knock any gift giving from top to bottom here - cards, fun items for men, women, children and babies...even for pets, they sell quality wrapping paper too. So cute.
Most items are a tad overpriced, but I like to shop small, so unless it's absolutely ridiculous, I try to splurge in support of the community.
Service is friendly, and if you sign up for their free rewards program via email/mobile number, you get a 10% discount for use with your next purchase. This was a promo they were running when I went for the first time - not sure if it's an all-the-time thing. Can be used at the clothing boutique as well.
I should say, the clothing boutique is really cute and has a large array of fashionable clothing and accessories - I got my mom a beautiful oversized Christmas scarf here.
Service at both locations is friendly and helpful..
You've got to stop in! Even just to take a...
Read moreNot a huge fan. 11a opening hour seems a bit odd, even for NYC. I can usually wake up, commute into lower Manhattan, shop, return to Lockwood & they are still not open. My first experience with the store was to pick up a CSA flower delivery. An employee pops out as I’m walking up ~10:30am to arrange the store’s sidewalk sandwich board, raise the gate, etc. “Hi—I’m here for the CSA flower pickup.” Their response: “We don’t open until 11a.”
Kinda weird that they’re rolling out the red carpet 30 mins early, but no big deal, I’ll just sit on the stoop and read the news for a few minutes.
11:00 rolls around, folks standing around inside, but no opening. 11:05a rolls around, they finally unlock the door. I ask the same question about CSA delivery. Their answer: “Oh, CSA pickup isn’t until noon.”
Line break and ellipses because…W.T.H???
The next time I visit the store is to grab a quick gift. I’ve identified a specific item online, in stock that I intend to grab on my way out of town. Expecting the 11:05 rule, I show up at or just after 11a. Still not open! So I sit for a couple more minutes until I can enter the store. I’ll give you one guess. Yep, that’s right…out of stock.
Needless to say, I try to avoid this place. Pros: Great for the neighborhood. Cons: bad...
