Barzola — Restaurant in New York

Me and my family come to this restaurant at least once a month, today we received the worst service from Angel C. Before giving our order to the waiter, I asked for separate checks; the waiter Angel told me that it could only be split into two checks, which I agreed to. When it was time for the check, the waiter Angel brought a single check and told me that I had to make the sum and pay my part, that they couldn't make two checks for one table. LIES!, we always ask for two separate checks and they have never given us a problem.

After a long discussion, I asked to speak to the manager but the waiter, instead of leaving and calling the manager continued arguing and accidentally hit my son in the head, not enough with that he had the audacity to call me rude “GROSERA” - what it’s wrong with this guy? This whole situation could have been avoided if Mr. Angel had left and called the manager as soon as we asked him to, but no he had to stay and argue back to customers. Definitely the owner needs to pay attention to who he’s hiring cause the food can be delicious but if the servers don’t have any respect and professionalism why bother to open a restaurant?

The only positive thing wa the manager Ana, very kindly she was able to separate the checks and despite having a terrible time, I agreed to pay the 18% service fee that is automatically included in the check, which I find absurd because then the waiters don’t make an effort to provide service and They treat customers badly since they know that the tip is already included.

I also work in the restaurant industry and I have never insulted a customer no matter how rude they have been and we also don’t include the service because the service is given and in exchange for spectacular service comes the tip.

I hope the owner reads this comment and trains his staff better cause they have a toast system and they don't even know how to use it,...

We arrived around 8:30pm. There was no host/hostess to great us for 20 minutes. Later comes a waiter and I guess a hostess who did not speak to us,but told the waiter where to seat us.

We ordered appetizers and a drinks. We did place our main course with a different waiter. The waiter that took our drink order kept asking if everything was okay. And it was. The second waiter was coming to our table with the drinks that we ordered and saw we had our drinks and turn back to the bar. Time flys and after about an hour we saw people that arrived after us being served. The two waiters kept coming by asking if everything was all good. We're thinking yes as if our food was coming out. The food never arrived.

We brought this to the attention of our two waiters and 5 minutes later the food arrived. Mind you earlier I had asked one of the waiters what time they closed. The waiter said 9:45pm. It was close to this time when the food arrived.

We asked for the check for the 2 rounds of drinks and appetizers. They insisted the main course was on the house by the manageger...who never came to us.

We paid for what we ate and left and had really delicious 😋 pizza 🍕 across the street. The staff all seemed confused and unorganized. No host or hostess...

Yesterday, Saturday, June 18, 2022, we had a meeting attended by 16 people. I made the reservation two weeks in advance for 14 people, which ended up being 18 people. From the beginning I contacted the manager named Joel, who very kindly reserved the tables for us in a secluded and almost private place which was perfect for the small event that was held and which included the display of an 80"x80" banner which without any problem they allowed us to unfold. The place is not sophisticated but has an elegant touch. We did our event which lasted about 3-4 hours, Joel and the staff helped us very kindly with all the details. They served the appetizers and the main dishes which by the way is Ecuadorian food which I had not tried until yesterday and the which is delicious. All the attendees agreed with all these details that I mentioned and of course many of us plan to return. The cost of the main dishes are really reasonable and the best thing was the wonderful and super helpful staff. Personally and as the organizer of the event, it was the best place that could have been chosen, giving it five...
