Being to Amylos 3 times before without reservation and never had such a bad experience like tonight. We arrived at 6:25 pm on 11/11 party of 6 for my 68th birthday and brought my cake. The party included my disabled elderly mother of 97 y.o. with a walker/rollator and was told at the front desk by 3 not so friendly young ladies that without a reservation they could not accommodate me; because 7 people were a lot of people! Also, their policy for bringing my cake was to charge $3.00 for each piece they cut for my guests! So, since I had no reservation these extremely kind ladies suggested that my mother and my senior guests should sit outside on the curve enclosures and to check it out because it had heaters! I went out and told them that their curve enclosures sitting was not a closed seating place and it was less than 40 degrees outside which is too cold for anyone; even an elderly lady. I noticed that the chairs in these curve enclosures were old wicker half torn and not adequate or comfortable for any customer to sit and have dinner regardless of age. Went back to them and told them that it was too cold. They told me that it was the only accommodation they could offer me. We finally begged these lovely ladies to see if they could make an effort to accommodate us. One of them started looking at her computer screen and said: I can offer you a table for 6 until 8 pm tonight. But you have to leave at 8 pm so we can clear the table. We had no other choice because of my mother; our waiter was Lucky we rushed eating, our waiter kept a watchful eye on us and exactly at 7:55 pm he came back with my cake to remind us that we had to leave. Also, he told one of our guests that as a special favor he was not going to charge us $3 for each piece of cake they cut for my guests! My guest, who actually recommended Amylos for this dinner told our waiter Lucky: please tell me what kind of special favor are you doing for us if they brought their own cake? He explained that he did not charge the $3 extra for cutting each piece. My guest told him: you must be kidding right! Is that a new policy? Lucky felt uncomfortable. So we had to rush out and leave paying our bill and feeling very disappointed. It’s true that sometimes accommodating disabled seniors is kind of difficult and some people do not like it. Unfortunately, we will all reach that age someday. Wish someone in Amylos in the near future is more understanding and accommodating with their disabled...
Read moreHappy New Year 2020!! We spent the end of 2019 at Amylos Taverna. Starting with the good, the restaurant was a great addition to our neighborhood and the food was good except the desert which was disappointing; The lava cake was as any one would get at a cheap chain restaurant. The potential for Amylos is there, however a few things were amiss starting with the service as others have mentioned before. The young lady at the reception desk, a new addition to the US, was polite but if the owner wants to reach higher standard, the staff must be linguistically competent and have a certain level of conduct. We were unfortunate to sit next to a rowdy, vulgar group of young adults in their 30's which started vaping towards the end of the night but management was nowhere to control them and the waitress was happy to engage in unessesary chit chat. It was unacceptable that the restaurant has utilized every single spot available for seating. Even the foyer where the kitchen and the elevators are located has seating for those unfortunate patrons that will hear the dishes clattering, the staff calling out, and will get intervals of fish fried smoke to add to their good attire. Not acceptable! That should be a buffer zone. The entertainment was good and the young lady singer was melodic with a good selection of songs, however to invite people to dance in a minute space was not acceptable; They had even put a table where it could have easily been enough space to be able to dance. The transition to the new year was done hastily since the band had taken an intermission that lasted until two minutes before the year ended. You didn't get the feeling of celebration. When we departed from the store all hostesses and staff had disappeared. With some careful thought and replanning this place has good potential......Less sometimes can be more..... Reducing capacity to make room for quality will only guarantee more patrons wanting a spot for...
Read moreThis was my second time visiting Amylos. I'm not pleased. I'd personally rather give it a 2.5.
First, let me say this - if you're going out for Greek food, accompanied by a traditional Greek dining experience, Amylos is not for you. The staff and management, while both friendly and polite, greatly lack "filotimo." This is a sense of warmth, friendship and true hospitality.
The food is good and created with a modern approach. Typical Greek fair with a chic modern flair.
The music is very loud and has a techno beat. While I don't mind it, it's just not what I desired for a family dinner. That last statement leads me to the next, if you're going for a family dinner, don't - this is not the place for it.
I absolutely hate being rushed. We ordered a great deal of food, bottled wine, coffee and desserts. After ordering appetizers, we were asked every 5 minutes if we were ready for the main course. I hate this. I spent nearly $500 last night and despise that I was made to feel rushed. On the flip side of that coin, there were several simple things that we waited so long for. I waited nearly 15 minutes for a club soda. We had to ask twice for a tomato juice, we ordered espresso and Sambuca. The espresso came more than 10 minutes before the sambuca - needless to say, our espressos were cold. We had an order or mussels, that came with only one clam fork. It is not obvious that there are 4 adults at the table ?
Now, my biggest complaint is that of serving wine. We ordered a second bottle, and the server wanted to pour it in the glass that had wine from the last bottle in it. This is poor service.
Amylos, if you want to charge the prices you are, train your staff how to serve. In addition, managers: visit your tables. I've never seen so many people standing around. This was our second, and...
