You get exactly what you pay for when staying at the Manhattan Bowery Lodge which is located close to the Manhattan Bridge, Canal Street, Bowery & Canal Street subway stations. You can access most of the city surroundings when staying in Chinatown. (A, C, E, B, D, F, J, Z, N, R, Q, W, 1, 4, 6 subway lines). Don't expect a high service grade when residing here. You'll get a room, a bed and a nightstand. There are bathrooms available though (I counted 4 of them). All are maintained well and I didn't encounter any filth or dirt during my stay, always positive.||||The sheets and room were clean as well, they were freshly washed. On check-in, you'll receive a towel as well. The hotel has an open ceiling meaning that every room is connected through one ceiling, you'll hear everything. But I didn't encounter any nuisance, the guests tried their best to remain quiet and calm. I did get some good hours of well deserved sleep but I recommend to bring an extra pillow (like a travel pillow one's always take on board any flight). Pillows are thin, but the bed itself was okay. Overnight it can get hot in the room, sometimes the AC will kick in but prepare to wear light clothing as you will burn up.||||Wi-Fi is available throughout the entire facility and is fast and reliable. It can get busy in the morning and evening hours but other than that, it's great.||||Please mind the fact that most of the staff don't speak English and barely understand you, but they'll know the check-in process. Check-in went smooth and they'll lead the way to your room, I read other reviews about their rudeness but it depends on your patience. You're in Chinatown, they'll appreciate your motivation to understand each other.||||Important! Payment happens in cash, they won't accept any kind of plastic at the counter. There's a Bank of America available across the street (some other ATM's as well) but I preferred the Bank of America as it was only accessible after you swiped your card. On booking the hotel, you'll pay a small amount beforehand. ($54), this amount will be deducted from your grand total. The hotel is fair, please mind that the tourist tax is not included in the total as seen on booking.||||General conclusion, would I stay again? Yes! I paid $140, for 3 nights. It's a bargain for getting a private room, really necessary when crossing the most populated city in the US. This hotel is suited for solo travelers, people on a budget, people who don't make use of all the 'amenities' normal hotels give but you won't use anyway.||||General NYC tips. It's a safe city, use your common sense and don't do stuff you normally won't do. Try to behave like a New Yorker, walk fast and make way in the subway. I had an awesome solo time in the city, at every moment of the day. Enjoy your stay in the Big Apple and the...

Read moreFirst impressions, two floor walk up steep steps to get to a corridor with a reception desk. The place is clearly run by a Chinese family who's grasp of english language is not 100%, when communication breaks down repeating the same thing at their guests at double volume tends to rattle your head. ||||The double room was tiny, the double bed filled the entire length of the room so you have to climb over your partner if you fancy walking down the hall to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. You will need the toilet because that breaks up the monotony of staring up at the cheap, badly positioned ceiling tiles where the light is pouring in from the hallway. You won't sleep, light comes in around the door frame too. It's almost like this set up was a repurposed office building with rooms made of 1/4 inch thick hardboard. You can hear everything, from people coming in late at night, sat outside your door talking loudly, the cleaning ladies talking in the hallway without a pause for breath for a hour from 7am, if I was on the other side of that conversation I'd be looking for an escape route. And that's just the staff, you can hear everything in the street from your room. You'll hear the coffee machine in the hallway, and the microwave ping ping ping ping ping, and that's the staff making their own snacks.||||The bed is poorly constructed, with a flat hardwood base and it creaks and clunks if you move, and you'll need to move as your back muscles will be constantly tensed. The mattress does nothing, Honestly the hard floor is probably better for your back than the bed itself. Dirty floors, dirty walls, poor furniture. Wall sockets barely staying in the wall when you fit an adapter.||||We were looking for something cheap, thinking this is a somewhere we wouldn't spend time in, just sleep. But we couldn't sleep at all. I don't feel like I have slept properly in a week. AirBnB is a better alternative.||||On a positive they had clean towels and the location is ok, if you don't mind be shoved out of the way and treated like a second class citizen by the locals.||||I feel that some investment in modernisation could make this place bearable. Beds don't need to be uncomfortable. If you're going to offer a kitchen area then do that in a separate room, in the corner of the hall that is full of clutter or...
