We were so blown away with the great customer service and phenomenal brunch that we came back later (the same day!) for an early dinner! They also have an awesome selection of beers on tap. During our first visit in the early afternoon -I opted for a rice bowl, my husband had steak tacos and my cousin had the wagyu sliders. Everything was absolutely delicious. Mahmod and Nahid were top notch waiters. They kept checking in with us to make sure all was well. It was a very relaxed and welcoming environment. Nahid and Mahmod enjoyed telling us about the different dishes on the menu and answered our questions without hesitation. They insisted that the next time we come back we try the Ramen. After we left the restaurant, we "worked up our appetite" again by exploring the Museum of Modern Art- so we decided to go back to Shinka! Since it was later in the day, the restaurant was more packed, but Nahid and Mahmod remembered us and welcomed us back with a friendly greeting. The atmosphere was alive with conversation and had a really chill vibe. I ordered the Bone Broth Ramen, my husband had the Wagyu sliders this time and we ordered the gyoza for appetizers. They food came out in a reasonable time. I was blown away by the Bone Broth Ramen. Like. Literally. I was almost emotional. Words can't describe the rich flavors I experienced. Eating the ramen felt like I was experiencing an outer body experience. The ramen and broth was delicious, delicate and rich. My husband was also mesmerized by the Ramen. Now let's talk about these Wagyu sliders. My cousin didn't offer us any when he had them and NOW we understand why. Those things are PHENOMENAL. You get three of them in an order and you will want more! The gyoza were also a hit!!! I have never seen gyoza presented the was that Shinka plates them. Underneath the crispy topping (which also tastes delicious!) are some the most delightful tasting gyoza . I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant if you get a chance to visit the Chinatown area of...
Read moreI came across this restaurant from a blogger who called it the best ramen ever. First of all, I would like to give credit to the staff, who provided attentive and detailed service. However, I do have a few issues with hygiene. The main focus was on the cutlery, the chopsticks and spoons on the table were very problematic, the chopsticks were placed head down in the chopsticks bucket, I picked up four pairs and three of them had stains on the heads, I'm not sure if the stains came from the bottom of the bucket or if they weren't brushed clean. I'm not sure if the stains came from the bottom of the chopstick bin or if they weren't brushed off. Then there were the spoons, two of which had dried and stuck noodles and side dishes on them.
Coming back to the food, how good the food is is the most important thing to me. I ordered two bowls of ramen, one bowl of spicy pork bone ramen and one bowl of beef marrow ramen. To be honest, I was shocked by the appearance of the two bowls of ramen when it was served, it was very beautiful, like a work of art. The sides of the two bowls of ramen were very rich and the size of chashu that came with it was huge. But while the two bowls of noodles smelled aromatic, the flavor was very bland, the kind of bland where you put too little salt, in addition, the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen wasn't spicy at all, and I was even skeptical about the layer of red oil in the bowl. The beef marrow ramen on the other hand was much better and you could taste the aroma of the beef fat. Meanwhile the chashu was very unflavorful and the chashu was too tough and too woodsy with no meaty flavor. The ramen itself was middling, as the broth itself was bland in flavor, so the ramen was also flavorless. One thing to commend is the loose egg, it was perfect, like an amber-like loose egg yolk with a very penetrating flavor and just the right amount of saltiness...
Read morePLEASE ADVISE. New management is needed. Today is my birthday. My two friends and I decided to travel here from Baltimore, Maryland. We are all three black young men. Upon entering the location, a white male server gave us a look of disgust. The server then made eye contact with an asian female greeter. The greeter refused to greet or make eye contact with us as she led us to our table. Following, we were given dirty, smudged glasses to drink out of. Please see pictures attached. There was visibly smudged lip marks on the glass. As if this was not appalling enough, one of my friends asked the difference between two dishes. The asian female, that refused to greet or make eye contact with us as she led us to our table, condescendingly began to shout and point at the different images on the menu. The experience was embarrassing and appalling for my first time in New York.
PLEASE ADVISE. New management is needed. The behavior exhibited by the server and greeter was disgusting and racist. Check other reviews that state the same sentiments.
