I just wanted to take a minute and pass along a quick testimonial about how great DJ Ben Coleman was for our wedding at Union Trust in Philadelphia. As my then wife to be and I started to plan our wedding we knew that music was going to be the one part of the party that really mattered. We chose the Remixologists because they had DJed a friend's wedding a few years ago and our photographer recommended them. From the start Ben was very easy to work with. During our initial phone call with Ben, it was clear that he loves to DJ and is knowledgeable about a variety of genres of music. After that, he sent us an easy to use template where we could add specific songs for introductions, first dances and that sort of thing. It was fun adding songs to the "must play" and "don't play" lists. As we were planning Ben was super responsive to emails and offered to schedule phone calls if necessary. We felt totally comfortable telling Ben, "This is what we are into but we trust you to make it work." He made what could have been an overwhelming process, easy. When the big day finally came, Ben killed it! He provided the music for the ceremony and reception. All of it was perfect. Our musical tastes runs more in the indie/new wave/britpop/dance-punk vein than conventional wedding music. Ben completely understood that and nailed what we were going for. He played songs and artists that we requested but also mixed in others that we didn't even think to add. It was almost like he had found every iPod each of us had ever owned and picked through them for the greatest hits of our lives. Best of all, everything was mixed seamlessly. Ben transitioned from The Supremes to Iggy Pop and from Paul Simon to New Order perfectly. He was so good that he kept everyone on the dance floor all night. The older folks who came out for Bowie stayed for Robyn. The younger cousins who took to the floor for Bruno Mars kept moving when Depeche Mode came on. He turned the night into a 3 hour dance freakout!! It was also great the way Ben managed to play our style without alienating anyone. On top of that he was able to hunt down and work in the DJ SEGA Action News theme song remix we requested. Ha. He even handled the thankless job of declining requests that we listed as "do not play" with grace and tact. All of the music from pre-ceremony to the last song was perfect. There wasn't a single hiccup or dud that cleared the dance floor. My wife and I were both thrilled and everyone we talked to that night and since has raved...
Read moreWhen my husband and I began our wedding planning process, we were extremely torn between a live band and a DJ. Our biggest fear was the typical wedding DJ that played “shout” and overused line dances. Well let me tell you, Simon was none of those things and we cannot recommend him enough! When I first reached out to Simon, he was extremely responsive, friendly and professional. He set up an introductory call shortly after where he listened to all my concerns and immediately put me at ease. I didn’t feel the need to have to send him a list of do’s and don’ts; rather, we completely trusted him with the little direction we gave him and he delivered! We received so many compliments about Simon the evening of our wedding. Not only because he played a great selection of music, but also because of his personality and how he kept everyone engaged! People raved about how friendly he was and how it looked like he was having so much fun, which made everyone else have even more fun! He was also a great sport when it came to my father’s “requests” and made sure to run them by my husband and I before hitting the play button. In addition, he did a phenomenal job emceeing, staying on top of things with our wedding coordinator and other vendors to make sure everything was going as planned. We had a lot of hard names to pronounce in our wedding party, but Simon took a lot of time to practice all of them. My Mom couldn’t get over how for the first time in her 30 years of living in America, someone said her name right! I also think it’s important to mention how organized Simon is. When planning a wedding there are so many moving parts, but I never worried about the music element because Simon sent reminders, worked off of basecamp to keep my husband and I on track and was super communicative which was a huge help! Lastly, Simon ended up recording our ceremony from his phone while he set up in the barn above our ceremony. He later sent us the MOV file, something that brought tears to my eyes because we did not book a videographer and didn’t have any footage. It is one of my favorite things from the wedding to replay and look back on and was such an incredibly thoughtful gesture. Overall, Simon is just a super cool guy with an awesome taste in music (and bow ties) and a great personality that really sets him apart from the rest. If you want one less stressor on your “to do” list, book him! You will not be...
Read moreRemixologists (S/O DJ Taiga) has distinguished itself as the premiere solution in event entertainment.
One of the major questions that arose during the wedding planning process was whether a DJ or band was best suited for reception entertainment. Within minutes of DJ Taiga beginning to spin, everyone but the octogenarians were on their feet and we had an unequivocal answer to our initial quandary.
Ahead of our big day, Simon (DJ Taiga) conducted numerous calls with us to ensure expectations were set on both sides in terms of deliverables. Beyond the frequent check-ins (via phone or email), Remixologists had a centralized portal for all relevant wedding documentation so that we as a couple could collaborate with our DJ in real time and easily access pertinent information.
Part of that comprehensive onboarding process with whichever DJ you book will also include direction on what you as the host should be thinking about in terms of what to play and what needs to be emceed. Obviously as the audio experts, Remixologists put together incredible mixes, but Simon incorporated a LOT of our feedback in terms of songs and artists that we liked.
Two weeks out of the big day, we had one last call to finalize all elements of the day and then Simon was excellent in liaising with our wedding coordinator to work out all logistical issues in the run up to the event.
As I mentioned at the top of this review, Remixologists truly proved why they are in a class of their own at the upper echelon of the entertainment game the night of our wedding. Simon was the perfect host for the event and was able to play many of the songs and artists we loved while still mixing in crowd pleasers and the occasional filthy banger.
One additional consideration that I had not even thought of until Simon (DJ Taiga) arrived at the venue was the size of the equipment. Everything he brought with him was compact and lightweight and not intrusive like the speakers and DJ booths of yesteryear. Certainly helped keep the focus on the event itself and not the man behind the curtain.
All in all, Remixologists should be a no brainer hire. They are responsive and professional, but more importantly, they bring the heat on the...
