RON THE BARBER NYC — Local services in New York

I called the other day to make an appointment for a haircut. The person who answered the phone said they’re busy and to make the appointment online. I proceeded to explain to them that I purchased a voucher through Groupon and the instructions say to call to make an appointment. I was told they don’t accept the offer anymore and offered no assistance besides saying to contact Groupon. The voucher doesn’t expire for another 5 months and there’s nothing that says it’s invalid. It’s also still able to be purchased on Groupon. I was offered nothing to make up for this, not even an explanation or apology. You can’t write a review on Groupon unless you redeem the voucher in which you probably can’t get a refund. So right now this barbershop has three 5 star reviews and who knows how many people are in the same situation as me or going to be purchasing this offer in the future yet won’t know because they aren’t able to leave a review on Groupon. I don’t like writing negative reviews but am purely writing this because the offer is still active and I was offered nothing by the barbershop to resolve this. I can’t imagine I’m the only one with this issue right now and am extremely disappointed because I was looking forward to trying this barbershop.

Update - I got a refund through credit at Groupon after having to reach out through different avenues. Not a great experience on either end. Changing from a 1 to 3 star because I still want people to know about the deal not being honored when it’s still available for purchase. So a few things, I booked a cut for 11 AM. I have planned my day to get here at that time. After I have already started my commute, I get a message saying he is running late and wants to push it to 11:50 instead. It’s not ideal, but life happens so I agree to wait. Long story short, he keeps delaying it further and finally arrives at 12 40 (almost 2 hrs after my initial appointment). As the name of the salon states, I booked the cut with Ron but when he finally got there, he said “I booked with someone else” when I clearly have the email confirmation saying the cut is with Ron. Getting the cut with Ron was the whole point of coming to the place anyways. The other barber was not bad but the experience and how the situation was handled was not professional at all especially after making someone wait 2 hours for their cut in the middle of the work day. Would have loved to add a good review for a cut well done but the whole experience of how everything was done esp after paying almost $90 for a cut is not...
