Salon Jatel — Local services in New York

I cannot speak more highly about Salon Jatel and am so happy I made the 2.5 hour trek into NYC and took a chance on them. I was specifically searching for a Japanese salon to take care of my and my mother's sometimes fickle Japanese hair and saw Salon Jatel's excellent reviews online. So, I called the day before and made an appointment for myself and then called back again to book my mother at the same time. Our appointments were on a Sunday, and we had an easy ride into the city and were able to park right in front of the salon (on-street parking is free on Sunday!). We truly hit the jackpot. Upon walking in, we were happy to see the salon was following Covid protocols with temperatures being checked and each station sectioned off. Everyone, both staff and clients, were wearing masks and we felt very safe. We were taken on time (actually, early!) and warmly greeted by the stylists. Everyone at Salon Jatel is/was so pleasant, accommodating and nice. Even more important, all of the stylists at Salon Jatel are extremely skilled in their craft. In just speaking and listening to all of them, you can tell they are highly trained and genuinely care about making their clients look their best. I was lucky enough to witness fantastic haircut after haircut while I received my own fabulous haircut and color from Kumi and my mother received hers from Harumi. I went from a "just okay" shoulder-length hairstyle I had maintained from a local salon in my state to a perfectly coiffed inverse bob that I can't get enough of! I have received so many compliments since my visit. Harumi also transformed my mom's hairstyle from "Covid hair" to a short, precision hairstyle and highlights that she would be able to easily maintain. We really appreciated Kumi and Harumi taking the time at the beginning of our appointments to understand exactly what our hair goals were and not only executing on them, but far exceeding our expectations. Their skills are incredible and it shows. Both Kumi and Harumi also made sure to show each of us exactly how to wash and dry, style and maintain our new hairstyles so we would be able to keep them looking just as awesome as they did when we left the salon (and we have been able to thanks to our perfect haircuts, which makes it that much easier). Tran is hands down the best hair stylist I've ever been to.

Not only have I gone through quite a few hair stylists in my time, but I'm also an incredibly demanding when it comes to my hair. I actually started with Tran back in Atlanta about 6 years ago. I and have followed her religiously since. Even after moving away I would 'save' my hair for as long as 6 months till I could get back to her. Even though I occasionally pushed the envelope between coloring and cut, my hair always grew out spectacularly. Kinda crazy how long it would last actually.

Tran is a master colorist, specializing in balayage as well as foils. She can do anything from the perfect umbra, hair repairs, to all over highlights. I've sent all of my girlfriends to her over the years, all of which has become a steady repeat clients just like myself. She's also a lover of long hair, sporting a mane that's about a yard long, so all you ladies out there who want to find that perfect stylist who "won't cut too much off" she's your girl.

Highly Recommended For Keratin Treatment!!

Tyler is an artist! I went last week for a Keratin treatment and from the first minute I walked in the place, I felt welcomed! Vanessa at the front desk is amazing!! She helped me scheduling my appointment 2 weeks in advance because it is that busy!

Tyler did my Keratin treatment (Silqy Keratin treatment) and he is a true artist, pay great attention to details, and have years of hair styling experience!

I showed him a few photos on how I like my hair to look, and a few hours later I couldn't be more happy with the results!

Also Tyler is a great person to talk to!! He is a very smart, knowledgeable, educated, and kind human being!! And I enjoyed talking to him on a variety of topics! He also gave me great life hacks and hair care tips as well!

I'm very satisfied with my hair new look that I think I won't need a haircut for a long time.
