I barely wear makeup but wore makeup for an occasion and after removing it with the makeup wipe I noticed a chemical burn on my face. I'm a women of color so I called the office a week after this and asked for an appointment with a dermatologist. They referred me to a blk dermatologist since I am a women of color. However, they said she was booked up so they referred me to her assistant,I believe her name is Kendra Joseph, PA. My first appointment was in February. I arrived. The office was clean and the receptionist was cordial. They called me in to my appointment. As I'm waiting in the room for the dermatologist a Hispanic assistant came in and asked me a few questions of why I was seeing the dermatologist and then took pictures of my face. Then after waiting a while the dermatologist came in the room, and said something along the line of "So I will be prescribing you this ointment and you will apply it twice a day"I was taken a back and shocked. She did not even shake my hand or introduce herself to me. It was very bad courtesy from the start, and I never experienced such abrupt treatment before from a medical provider. She did not even sit down in the room to greet me and introduce herself to me. She stood over me and after speaking left the room.I ignored this bad etiquette because I was mostly focused on getting a treatment for the chemical burn on my face. Before she left the room,I told her that I also had dark spots on my arms that I would like to get treatment to remove. She said that is genetic and can't be removed. Which was not true because it was from scarring 2 years prior. When I came back for a follow up evaluation the same thing occurred except this time I asked her again about the marks on my arms and what I can use to remove it. She asked me to show her the marks on my arms which I had already showed her prior.I did my best to pull down the sleeve on my long sleeve dress to show her.As I was struggling with this I felt her and the assistance awkward judgemental vibe. She then said that I can use bio oil. A few seconds after they were leaving the room I heard a voice say "That was weird!" It sounded like the dermatologist or the Hispanic assistant. Are you serious? This is how you all act with a patient? After that I said to myself I am never coming back here!Despite the bad etiquette and abrupt attitude I received from the dermatologist I still gave this dermatologist a chance because she's a women of color and I thought that she would know more about how to treat my skin. However, I did not like her demeanor and attitude at all and that last time I went there was the last straw for me with her. You have got to be kidding me.You try to support your people but then their are people like this who act like they are above their own race. It's giving some type of weird, self hate complex and I don't care to support...
Read moreThis practice needs serious training in bed-side manner and customer service. I scheduled an appointment last week and due to a train delay I was slightly behind. Since I was late my appointment was canceled. Understandable. I spoke to the front desk receptionist in person and she stated that I could still see Dr. Sumayah Jamal but I would have to wait for an hour. Unfortunately I couldn’t due to another appointment. I asked her to reschedule me with Dr. Jamal (who traditionally is really packed) and she did for this afternoon around 5pm. I called the practice in the morning to confirm my time slot. I didn’t want to be late the second time around. The male front desk receptionist claimed I had an appointment with another doctor at the practice. I informed him that was incorrect and that it should be with Dr. Jamal. He claimed that in his records my prior ZocDoc appointment was with this same “different” doctor. Mind you, I had the confirmation emails and calendar invites for Dr. Jamal. I emailed that to him. He also claimed that Dr. Jamal next appointment wasn’t until March. He puts me on hold and a passive aggressive Sergio comes on with attitude while being extremely loud, and asks me “what’s going on?”. He refused to give me his name upon politely requesting at first and dismissed me with a simple “it’s okay.” I asked again, and he finally gave me his name. I explained yet again the situation and he cuts me off asking me for my availability on Wednesday or Friday. When I asked him under what context, this week, Feb or March? He gets irritated and says “I’m just trying to see if I can squeeze you into her busy schedule”. He then goes on to tell me that I shouldn’t use ZocDoc because they have this issue often. However, when I came in person last week, I was listed properly with the correct doctor. It all made no sense. I no longer felt safe and in a inclusive environment to be seen by any doctors at this practice. I can sense that they could care less about making their clients feel respected and valued....
Read moreI went to see Dr. Sumayah Jamal. First, she gave me some "Eczema Skin Routine" sheet that suggested I used Dr. Bronner's unscented soap. Anyone with any understanding of skin and that soap knows that it would only worsen eczema conditions. Furthermore, how do you now know the difference between "Unscented" and "Fragrance Free?" Furthermore, the tips on the sheet are basic everyday knowledge pertaining to eczema. I interacted with the MA mainly because Dr. Jamal was in and out the room in under three minutes and never returned. She looked at my skin, told me to keep a food journal?????? Then brought back the skin routine sheet which felt like an ad, and gave me a general prescription. The same one that I had before. Clearly I need something else if I'm back with similar issues. She didn't ask any specific questions to understand triggers, duration and severity of symptoms, history with symptoms, etc. in all honesty, I felt like I was inconveniencing her by being there to begin with. God forbid I go to a dermatologist for my skin concerns. Lastly, I ended up having to talk to her MA, and ask a series of questions to which she responded, "I'm not sure, I'm not the doctor." Which is a fair response, but begs the question, where is the doctor??? Dr. Jamal quickly left the room without even as much as a goodbye, no explanation on how to use the prescriptions, and no timetable for a follow-up. Granted, I wouldn't have gone anyway, but that's the bare minimum from and doctor, no? Lackluster service and extremely disappointed in how...
