After reading all the 5-star, glowing reviews at the Scully and Scully website, I ordered a silver chest from them. Shipping was fast and it arrived a week or so later. Shortly after the delivery guys left, I tried to use the chest and discovered the bottom drawer inside the chest would not open. The drawer slams into the drop-down front panel (after you open that panel) and will not clear it. I'm not sure how it even made it out of the Scarborough House factory, the maker of this chest.

After several attempts to open the drawer, I took photos and a video showing how the chest is defective and the drawer will not open. I sent the photos and video to Scully who never apologized for the problem but agreed to schedule a return. The chest was picked up on December 14th, 16 days ago, and I still have not received a refund. I emailed their representative, T____, to find out when I'd receive a refund and she has never responded. Two days ago I called and talked with another representative who promised I'd hear back from the previous representative via email later that day or the following day. I've never heard from anyone.

I left a 1-star review on their website for the chest two weeks ago and it still has not posted. So anyone looking at this silver chest on their website will see nothing but 5-star reviews. Do they only post the positive reviews?

I'm attaching photos to show how poorly this piece is constructed. It looks like when it was being built, someone attached the front drop-down door, then realized it was attached in the wrong place, removed it, reattached it and then tried to cover up the hole left in the wood where it was originally attached. Maybe this has something to do with why the bottom drawer of the chest can't clear this front drop-down panel. Also, there's a weird shadow/blemish in the finish on the front panel.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am, not only in this purchase, but the way the return has been handled by this New York company that once had a stellar reputation.

Update on 1-25-22: As of this date, Scully & Scully has still not posted my 1-star review of this chest at their website. Only perfect 5-star reviews are visible. Something to keep in mind when reading...

I have been treated very dishonestly by this business. I would recommend against buying anything here. In December 2022, I bought a Christmas gift here for my wife and spent more than $500 on the item. It was not to her liking so I later returned it and was told that I would receive a credit to my credit card account. I also received a store receipt indicating that I would receive a refund to my credit card. All good at this point. Months later, I found the receipt at work and decided to check to see if I received the credit since I did not recall seeing it. No refund. I called and they took my name and number. No one called me back. A month or two later I called again. No return call. Eventually, I was able to speak to an employee who looked up the sale on the computer and informed me (first I heard of it) that I was only able to receive store credit because I returned the item a few days after the window for returns, which was totally inconsistent with what I was told and what the return receipt says. I would never have even known they had deceitfully kept my money if I had not thought to check months later to see if I had received a refund. This to me is theft. I then asked to speak to a manager and left my number. No call back. Next, I am guessing they will tell me I have missed the widow to use store credit. I will not be shopping here again and recommend that you not shop here either unless you like giving your hard-earned money away to a business that lacks integrity. What a joke.
