I had my wedding here on March 25th 2017.
I lived in NYC for 7 years. I have been in the service industry for 9, many of those years on the upper east side. I am picky when it comes to service because I myself am a perfectionist when serving, bar-tending or event planning.
I planned this wedding long distance. The manager (Laura) and staff could not have been more accommodating!!! Most places in Manhattan try their best to nickle and dime you for every cost, this was not the case here. The whole planning process was so down to earth- which was refreshing in comparison to other vendors I had to use for this extravaganza. We had an afternoon reception on a Saturday from 1:30 to 5:00 pm, we were trying to make sure to be off peak hours. It was the best service in town and for the best price.
The space is old school art-deco NYC. The black and white floors, wood finishes, antique mirrors and cash register give it a charm that can't be denied. The food is so good, we had passed apps and a full bar. The cocktails here are speakeasy-style, and done so very well. These people are so good at their jobs, really. Its hard to plan a wedding long distance and they remembered to ask all of the questions I forgot to ask!
Thank you. thank you, thank you Laura, thank you Bar Room. My wedding couldn't have been...
Read moreWe arrived for happy hour at around 3:30pm and wanted a bar table. 3 out of 4 were empty. We were told that we might have to get up at 5pm as there were two reservations. When the time came around, two tables had reservation signs on them and we were told we needed to close out. We asked about the reservations as two tables were reserved and were told that all of the tables were reserved. So we closed out and went to the bar. A group of people asked us why we got up and asked if they could sit there. We told them that we were told we had to get up because if a reservation and that the table was reserved. So they didn’t sit down. Five minutes later they sat down. We asked the waitress and she claimed they were part of the reservation even though they sat down with drinks from the bar. We told her that we talked to them and they were not part of the reservation and were told it was a miscommunication so we then got a free round of drinks. So clearly they lied and kicked us out of the table for a bigger group when there was not a reservation. They knew they messed up hence why they gave us a free round of drinks but kicking people out of a table just because it’s a smaller group of people when they are continuing to drink and order is just bad...
Read moreMy girlfriends and I came here for book club. We waited for a table while the hostess said nothing was available with 7 tables open in the back. First time we were told “nothing is available”. Two girls went up twice to ask about an open table and the second time she said “only if you’re ordering food - you can sit at any table in the middle”. (Also weird how she tried so hard not to seat us and then suddenly a table was free) So what do you think we did? Sat at a table in the middle of the floor… We had three workers come up to us with very rude and disrespectful tones and embarrass us in the dining room saying “DID THE HOSTESS SAY YOU COULD SIT HERE?! YOU CANT JUST SIT ANYWHERE” . While the other patrons just stared, everyone was HIGHLY confused. Not only were we berated once by an employee, but THREE employees came over to yell each time. We then decided to get up as we were not going to spend money here, the arrogant bearded man swiped our cups off the table and sighed? I don’t know when people decided it was okay to treat people who are spending money in their establishment. I’m a native New Yorker and in my 30 years in the city, I’ve never been spoken to this way. I would never come back here and I would NEVER recommend for anyone else...
