I would love to know how people are even ordering any food. I walked in the shop yesterday and the Chinese aunties were just talking amongst themselves and didn’t even look my way even though I was clearly looking around confused, because I thought that this place sells tofu, soy milk, mantou, but it didn’t look like anybody was selling anything because the Chinese aunties were just chatting amongst themselves, and anyone else that worked in the flower part of the shop did not say anything to me or my partner while we were there. It was a very strange experience and made me feel left out. When I stepped outside again to make sure I was at the right place, I saw the little ordering hole and the menu for the food area of this place, I walked back in and still the Chinese aunties were just chatting amongst themselves. I am not a shy person, but I did not want to interrupt them to get their attention either. Did I have to start doing jumping jacks to get their attention?? This made this place come off as rude and like they don’t care about customers. I assume I came in on an off day since the reviews rave about the tasty offerings and nice old couple(which I did not see). The plant portion of the shop does not offer as much as I hoped, because I wanted a String of Pearls succulent but they did not have much besides bamboo. If I want bamboo then MAYBE I’ll come back. If I want tofu pudding or mantou, I will go elsewhere where people actually want to...
Read moreDo NOT book flowers from here! Because you will pay the owner's fault.
I called on 8/27 to check if I can cancel my wedding flower order for 9/3, which is one week ahead. The lady (I guess the owner?) on the phone told me "okay, no problem." I asked if I could get my deposit $60 back. She agreed. I was so surprised and happy.
Today, which is 9/1, she called me and asked if I would pick up the flower at 8:30 am on 9/3. I said I already called you on 8/28 (I remember wrong. It was 8/27 when I looked back my call log.) and canceled the order. She said she thought it was another order, and now I couldn't cancel the order because she already bought the flowers. And she said if I wanted to cancel the order, I had to call one week ahead, which I did. I said it was your mistake, not mine. She insisted I can't cancel the order. I'm like... what?? I said can I get $60 worth flowers then? She said NO. (what???) I can't even get $60 worth flowers. The point is, it is HER fault! She confused the orders but she let me to pay.
Then she said no refund and no flowers and she hang up my phone!
So I'm losing my $60 because of her fault!!
Oh by the way, she charges $40 for a high glass floral decoration, which in another...
Read moreI remember my grandmother bringing me here as a small child. Back then there was only one or two boba shops in the area, and Taipan Bakery still had a bunch of bakeries. Flushing has changed a lot in the past many many years, but besides the signage (much more English than before) and pricing (darn the economy), this place remains.
I go here for the tea eggs, these lovely things boiled for hours in a black tea based broth. By the time these little guys get to me, the scent of cloves and anise blend beautifully with the soy sauce baseI. I'm not sure how long the broth has been here for, but I'm convinced it's one of the closest things to a perpetual stew I can find on this side of Queens. Sure, the spot isn't as old as Lucia's (a pizza spot also on Roosevelt), but it serves as a living example of the food culture that makes Flushing home. As food trends come and go, and the latest in increasingly complex Chinese chains come stateside, I can only hope that this...
