I cannot even open account in SBI newyork. I tried online; the site online process asks me to call IVR number to complete application process and IVR asks me to go the website and hangs up. I have no idea why/how they are still in business.
if there is a negative star rating I would give - stars. for the folks who want to deal with this bank just a high level stats.
Account Opening - you need fill out the online application form and send the document printed and mail them (snail mail). I this this bank do not know there is something called e-Signatures? After they recieve all the documents it takes atleast 10 business days to activate the account so total 15 days to just open the account.
Domestic Money Transfer ( from my usa bank to SBI) : it takes anywhere between 4 to 5 business days. my other banks takes 2 business days most.
International Money Transfer: There is a charge of 25$ for every remittance even for transfering from SBI NY to SBI India. why would I even open a bank account if you charge for every remittance? one of the reasons to open account with SBI is to reduce remittance transfer fees. even with the 25$ fees it took around 3 business days to transfer.
Customer Support/Service : None; if you try to call the office call goes to voice-mail. I hope US Bank regulator cancels the license for the bank for the legacy...
Read moreI was apprehensive at first based on all the reviews but after spending time there getting my NRO application validated, I found it to be a pleasant experience. This is due to all of Khairi's help who patiently walked through the application, checked for errors and explained the overall process. I would give her 5 stars but the brand overall 4 stars as there is no clear signage when you walk in as to any sort of line or who you talk to. There are 4 sitting booths plus 1 standing booth. Only 2 were occupied with employees helping clients so one just waits around to find someone free to explain why you're there and then they direct you to the right person. The NRO application took about 2.5 hours to process because there is only one person involved with that area. She was extremely helpful but 1 person can only help 1 person naturally. Then the documents were verified in a back office that took another 45 minutes. But everyone was polite. Key tip: Come prepared with your paperwork and documents. Don't just show up and start demanding answers. They will treat you with respect if you treat them...
Read moreDO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE. SBI customer service has proven to be the worst in the past and this bank takes it to a whole new level. Rakesh (the bank manager) and Lokesh the new account opening department do not understand customer service at all.
I went to this bank after calling them about process to open a new checking account. They shared me a from and a bunch of documents needed on an email. I was told to visit in person to open the account. I took a 2 hour train ride followed by 30 min cab ride and spent $60 to get to the bank. After getting there, I was told they can’t open my account due to a wired immigration requirement even though I have a valid immigration status. I was never told about this requirement on call and even their forms do not contain this requirement but they quoted this as their policy! How are they allowed to get away with this?
Ultimately they made me go back without opening an account and I spent all this time money and energy for nothing.
