Tl;dr: I have come here for two years. It's so great I commuted an hour + the second time. Their staff cares a ton and Doctor Shoiab is awesome. My contacts were backordered and the staff took care of everything for me - even gave me the follow up calls they promised to do. It means a lot to receive excellent customer care - especially when the issue was the contact providers "fault" not Sunny Eye Shop's. (Fault in quotes cause backorder means they're successful...which I wouldn't hold against them!)
If you have time to read my whole review good for you!:
I have gone to Sunny Eye Shop the last two years. Both years they've been great, in fact so great that they kept my business even though I moved an hour + away. First year was just solid all around and they delivered on expectations. This year they handled the experience better than any other medical establishment I've seen. Patients get an a lotted time to get the staffs full attention and it is really great since we've been living so excluded from human interaction. So they balance safety in a way that gives it a personal touch.
The rest of the staff is just as impressive as Dr. Shoiab. I ordered a year supply of contacts. Rudy, the associate who helped me, was very low pressure but he did explain why I should order a full year instead of a few months at a time (I don't wear contacts everyday) and he directed me to a new brand that Dr. Shoiab had given me a trial of and provided me with a rebate form that saved me $150 dollars. Obviously the rebate is a promotion from the new company but Rudy didn't try to do anything but save me money - which is awesome. I think all New Yorkers are used to defending their wallet because at every turn we are expected to pay a little more. The other associate, who had actually helped me purchase glasses a year earlier, who I unfortunately don't recall her name was so cordial and helpful checking me in and conducting a few of the imaging exams. Those are really uncomfortable and while never painful they aren't my favorite part of the experience. However, she did it quickly and efficiently so we didn't have to do extras which I've never not had to do!
Most impressively is how they've handled the ensuing issues I've had after ordering contacts. I have an astigmatism in both eyes so my prescription is weird and I'm used to my contacts taking awhile. However, when I called them to simply ask for a tracking number so I could know when they were coming Rudy and his associate who I wrote about earlier really went above and beyond. They didn't give me a tracking number, they called the contact company and found out why my contacts were running late. They were able to get a smaller portion sent to me earlier, which the company was going to wait until they could fulfill the whole order, and they got me some extra contacts as well for free. It might seem not a big deal but let's be serious transparent communication and feeling like any inconvenience is an issue is rare - especially right now. I was anticipating being told to call the contact company myself, get the run around and then finally either get promises that would be unfulfilled or just told "they'll get to you when they get to you'. Sunny Eye Shop staff didn't even give it a chance to come to that. It is a huge relief to not have to go through that and it speaks volumes about how much their patients mean to them. It also speaks volumes of the kind of office Doctor Shoiab runs and that everyone is treated with respect. If you ever get bad customer service it's probably because the representative helping you is treated poorly - and that's not the case here! I mean hell - having an employee stick with you through a pandemic AND transition their position shows flexibility and consideration from management. If I'm wrong (I would be shocked) but it still shows how much they all care, cause if they're able to be that awesome and work at a poorly ran establishment then they are just truly amazing individuals. My guess is they are truly amazing individuals who are treated as...
Read moreI regret getting my glasses made at this eye shop. There are three main reasons why I’m leaving this low review: A critical error by the eye doctor I had my eye exam here in early May and ordered new glasses. When I first received them, I noticed that the left lens didn’t match my vision and caused severe dizziness. I mentioned this to a staff member, but he simply told me it was normal at first and to wear them for about a week. As someone who has worn glasses for 30 years, I knew this was not just an adjustment issue, but since it was my first time at this shop, I tried to follow their opinion. Even after wearing the glasses for three days, the dizziness persisted, so I brought in a pair I had made in January at another clinic and asked them to compare the prescriptions. That’s when they realized their own prescription had been incorrect. Despite this serious mistake, no one offered a sincere apology. They only said they would check with the doctor again. A few days later, another eye doctor dismissed the issue lightly and didn’t take responsibility. To be exact, my left eye has a prescription of -0.50, but they had prescribed +0.50. If I hadn’t asked for a recheck, I would have continued wearing the wrong lenses. Lack of proper management, delays, and broken trust I understand that anyone can make a mistake, and since they agreed to replace the lenses, I was willing to move on. However, the issue got worse. I returned the glasses on a Tuesday and was told I could pick them up by that Friday at the latest. A week later, I still hadn’t heard anything. When I called to check in, they seemed surprised and acted as if they had forgotten about my glasses. They said they’d call me back after checking. A male staff later called and explained that due to Memorial Day, the lens shipping was delayed, which is why they couldn’t proceed. He apologized sincerely, and I appreciated the explanation and told him I was willing to wait. But just an hour later, around 4 PM, a different female called to say the glasses were ready for pickup. This inconsistency made me realize that the staff either don’t communicate properly or had lied to me earlier. Limited inventory I initially liked the cozy and friendly atmosphere of the shop. They carried some brands I liked, so I assumed I could find a good pair despite the small size of the store. However, after my eye exam, I found most of the glasses in drawers were outdated styles, and I had to choose from the display items. I specifically asked for a new frame rather than a display model, and the staff agreed. But when I came to pick up the glasses, it turned out they had used the display pair anyway. At this point, I lost trust in this eye...
Read moreThere's severe malpractice in this shop's business decisions. I had a very poor experience here compared to three other doctors I've seen over last 8 years. -I was given brand specific prescription which means I can use my prescription for one brand only. Further consultation is needed if I change brand. Prescription for contacts should NOT be specifying brand. This is a bad business practice. I was required to go in for two visits just for a routine eye exam and prescription. This practice is again a bad business decision. I was told I must to do additional exams that are not part of the required routine eye. As per my insurance policy, I can choose to opt out of that enhancement exam. This increased my co-pay by $39 The doctor said to me "you're welcome" unsolicited . Perhaps it's an human error but I took that as passive aggressive, highly unprofessional way of soliciting appreciation from me on my question around why the prescription mentions name of brand I should use. I did not feel like I should say "thank you" when I was told I am allowed only one brand written in my...
