Bird House Bushwick is high on atmosphere but unreliable on color, cut, and customer service.
I shared photos of myself and the hair color and cut I sought at my first and second appointments. I had 3 appointments with the same stylist, who did both color & cuts. The not-what-I-asked-for results of the 1st 2 appointments, I chalked up to the stylist getting to know my hair and how its texture responded to the color she used.
I had provided her with constructive feedback before my 2nd and third appointments, and privately shared the same with her manager after each of those appointments. How things could actually get worse at my 3rd appointment, there's just no good-business explanation for. The stylist actually colored my hair 1.5 levels lighter than we had agreed on, something she admitted when I asked her after she colored it that day.
I sought further management support, which was accomplished only after nearly a month and weekly call calls and emails from me that elicited no response from the salon. Finally, I called on a day when I had asked if the owner was taking appointments, and we finally chatted briefly. Ash's decision not to provide a full refund was not what I expected after I had been such a patient, constructive client; nor was her inability to verbally acknowledge (let alone apologize) that her stylist had provided service that objectively missed the mark time and again, despite my feedback and discussions with management. As a followup, she even asked me not to leave a negative review of the salon, as it was a "family business." In the end, she suggested I find another salon.
So, while Bird House Bushwick looks up-to-date and on-trend when you walk in the door, don't expect to look that way yourself when you leave – and don't expect management or the owner to have your back. If you're not satisfied, in the end, this salon will believe it's your fault for expecting something they can't accomplish, then pretend you're...
Read moreI get my hair done with Ona back in September. I’ve had some bad experiences and formed maybe an unhealthy attachment with my hair. Ona is forward but gentle. The first time I saw her she suggested i needed a cut to give my hair some shape I was like 😮🙊😠😐 how dare she 😂 but her words penetrated my psyche cuz I couldn’t stop thinking that she was right. I needed the haircut. The second time I saw her it was just to flirt with her abt the hair cut. I was interested, I was thinking about it, but I didn’t know how to go about doing it or what I wanted etc. I spent a lot of time avoiding dealing with my hair and I know this sounds crazy but here we are. Anyway- Ona honestly took a real burden off me. I sat in her chair and gave her the most bare minimum of idea of what I wanted and left with an amazing haircut. Ive been wearing my hair down more often and have gotten so many compliments about how bouncy my hair is. She’s created a lot of movement and lightness in my hair and my soul, honestly lol. She was right I really needed the haircut.
Laila who washed my hair before hand was amazing. She was very considerate of my hair and extra conditioned it. I also felt the wash was very thorough. Also the view of the birds diving/flying while you’re getting washed? So relaxing.
The people working the front of the salon are also very warm and welcoming each time. The music is great. What more could You want?? Maybe you...
Read moreI’ve been a client of Ash’s for the past two and a half years, and I can’t say enough positive things about her. I was first introduced to her by Brooke, who is one of the co-owners and my former stylist (I loved Brooke!). When Ash and I met in the Fall of 2021, I’d been through a year and a half of the pandemic with my young family, and I needed a jolt to my appearance. (I think I told her that I felt like I looked like a Gap Dad who’d given up lol!) She immediately thought of some options and we decided to grow my hair out a bit more to shape a choppy ‘do that I absolutely loved. And when I started feeling like an update again several months ago, she didn’t miss a beat in suggesting possibilities and letting me know what to expect. Ash’s patience never wavered when I’d show up to my appointment asking if we could do something a little different. In fact, when I told her how much I appreciated her patience and endless supply of ideas, she said not only was it not a problem, but that talking about new ideas and trying things out and fun for her because it engages her artistry. She knows my hair and how it grows, and shares tips and suggestions for maintaining my style between cuts. Ash has all the chops of her craft and the execution of an experienced artist. She’s authentic, compassionate, empathetic, collaborative, down to earth, and real, real, real. Ash is an...
