This is more a message for Semkeh than it is for other customers. Up until about a year ago, Semkeh used to be SO good!! My office is next door and I would go at least once a week. Then they got iPads (bad sign for bushwick restaurants, as soon as they get ipads somehow the food gets worse) and the menu changed. The quality of the meats did not change, but the soul left the food. As in, they used to put baba ganoush and hummus in their wraps. Now they only put that very tahini-heavy kind of dry hummus with no acidity to balance it out. They also used to have this delicious red onion and sumac herb slaw they put into their wraps. Now it’s just run of the mill chopped lettuce and diced roma tomatoes. I gave it another shot today and the side salad I got was so sad. The same tiny chopped lettuce and diced roma tomatoes, bell peppers, and that’s about it. The dressing was slightly off balance and the salad had no personality whatsoever. Basically just chopped produce. Like no onions even. The beef burrito i got was surprisingly good, but it was because the beef was well seasoned and carried the burrito. There were very few other ingredients—just rice and the lettuce and tomatoes. I’m just sad because I really used to go here every week because it was genuinely the best easy Mediterranean food in the area. Now it’s just become another kind of utilitarian falafel and wrap place to me—definitely will do the trick if you’re hungry and want something healthy, but nothing spectacular. Read moreThey forgot the garlic sauce. May Allah spare you no mercy. I just ordered chicken and rice with tabouli and hummus. I was so excited to eat this. It has been 6 months since iv had my moms cooking. I have also been on a tight budget. My diet has consisted of McDonalds, dollar slices, and 50cent cakes. So I decided to have a special meal. I was so excited only to find out to my utter horror the Garlic sauce was missing. I was shaking. My vision went blurry. “Is this it?” I thought to myself. I just ordered a feast for 10 Lebanese men. First good meal Iv had in a while and for a while. But no garlic sauce. Just to paint a picture for all those who are not familiar with Lebanese food. Chicken with no garlic sauce, is like a car with no wheels, it’s like a spegetti with no meatballs. It’s like Harry with no potter. This is unforgivable. Haram. A sin against nature and time. I don’t even speak English. I learned it to write this review. May the sun swallow up your restaurant only, giving you a taste of the hellfire that awaits you in the afterlife. The pita bread was...
Read moreI recently dined at Semkeh restaurant it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and authentic décor set the tone for an amazing meal. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, offering excellent recommendations.
The food was absolutely divine! We started with a mezze platter, and every bite was bursting with flavor—especially the hummus and baba ghanoush. The falafel was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just perfect. For the main course, we had the mixed grill, and the meats were tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The shawarma was hands down the best I've ever tasted.
To top it all off, we ended with a traditional Lebanese dessert, baklava, which was the perfect balance of sweet and crunchy.
The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. If you're looking for authentic Lebanese cuisine, Semkeh restaurant is a must-visit. I will definitely be coming back!
