Limited Selection and Unethical to boot! I discovered the Detox market years ago in LA and Toronto and used to buy online from them quite often as I enjoyed the bundle offerings they provided each season in exchange for a certain threshold purchase. Over the years, these bundles have SERIOUSLY deteriorated in quality--they are basically an amalgamation of sample size leftovers and the odd full-size product they're looking to discontinue or unload. Still, it's an enticing offer, but the quality drop off is quite embarrassing. But what is most egregious and offensive is the unethical tactics they take to get you to purchase. Firstly, they've finally figured out how to get bundles to automatically load sans code (which means that people actually get the bundle who spend the amount rather then hoping they can dupe people into spending money, but not having to send them the bundle if they forget...). But while no promotional thing ever lasts, they SHOULD let you know at time of purchase. This is common practice at all sorts of stores and businesses and a green beauty store that claims to be about sustainable, healthy products should really be more progressive and fair in its marketing ploys. I started shopping more at Credo as their selection is much better, staff wonderful and their points system is truly great--it appreciates your purchases/support no matter what you spend and it gives you things you'd actually want in exchange for said points (which are easy to accrue given what you typically spend). Free brow and lip waxings, full size coveted products (not past date leftovers). I decided to give the Detox Market another go and purchase their Fall bundle this past week, when I would have usually purchased said products from Credo or Cap Beauty, so, naturally, I was quite incensed to find instead of a Fall bundle for my 250 dollar purchase (50 over the threshold price to get the bundle) I received 2 hair samples I've been given countless times before by Detox and other green beauty outlets. They should be transparent and honest about their running out--no problem--but I'll take my money elsewhere and get rewarded thusly since you are all about the bait and switch when it comes to your (increasingly lousy and unethical) marketing gimmicks. Go to Credo, amble over to Cap beauty, shop online at Follain or support local vendors like Treatment by Lanshin--we can do better then to support a company that is all about profiting off of their clean/green facade but who has no...
Read moreI was so excited to go to the nyc store as I have shopped the website consistently for years. The store was such a disappointment. The stock is limited (only a few pieces from some of my favorite skin care lines). I could have gotten over the limited selection of skincare but the staff was terrible. There was a lot of staff but all clumped together involved in deep conversations on their own. Not one person offered to help me or even said hello to me. I felt like I was intruding and it was awkward to get around the staff all clumped together. I helped myself and even though there seemed to be more than one register the staff all stared at me and continued to talk while I queued third in line at the iPad. Once it was my turn to check out I asked a few questions about products I had come to see in person but was told that they only have a sampling at the store and what is out is all they have. Then I mentioned I wanted to earn my detox points on my over $100 purchase because I like earning those points for my online purchases. The woman seemed a little confused and then said I didn’t have an in store profile and I would have to try to get “them” to link my in store purchase with my online purchase. That was frustrating!
A positive is the store had a lot of make up out to see in person. I wasn’t shopping for makeup but if I had been there was a good selection and it is nice to see the colors in person before you purchase.
If in NYC and looking for green beauty go to Cap beauty. The store is packed with the coolest inventory and the staff has always been approachable and happy to offer...
Read moreI've been to this store a few times and I'm really impressed by the product line and the staff. The first time I went in I had no idea what I was looking for. I don't really know the difference between all the products and I'm sure it showed. I usually buy my skincare at CVS and I just knew I wasn't happy with what I was seeing in the mirror. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to make me feel welcome.
They compared and explained the different lines (and thankfully made recommendations). I bought some amazing Josh Rosebrook Active Enzyme Exfoliator and the Advanced Hydration Mask. Traci even prepared some samples of the Nutrient Day Cream because I wasn't sure I wanted anything with tint. The first night I used it my friend said "I don't know what you're doing, but your skin looks amazing." When I went back, I picked up some eye cream, and left with a few more samples. I'll be back soon, I'm sure.
I'm amazed at the difference in performance between these natural products and the stuff...
