Such an incredible hotel. Every piece was so meticulously well thought out, and very luxurious, it was nice to be surrounded by such beautiful antiques and a dark ambience which made our stay very cozy. We stayed in the corner studio which had a great abundant of space, jazz music playing, and the bed was comfortable. The Frette bedroom slippers are an added plus.
Restaurant is great, good food, and the bartenders at the lounge made great cocktails. Mostly everyone was very friendly, including the woman who did our check-out process. Our stay here was special.
The only negative we had was our “welcoming” experience. Unfortunately, I misread the pet policy mistaking it with another hotel. This hotel has a “no pet policy”. On top of feeling a little humiliated and simply just feeling bad for not following rules - the hotel concierge, John, was so unpleasant to speak with (before he even realized there was a small senior dog in my bag). My partner and I genuinely apologized, multiple times and respectfully adhered to the pet fees. John toured us around the property and it was the most uncomfortable 15 minutes - no smile, bad attitude, unwelcoming facial expressions/body posture. Just overall horrific. I work in the luxury service industry and unfortunately, unwanted situations happen all the time. However, good customer service is to find a solution and still make people feel good, it’s not that hard. We understood the hotel consists of quality rugs and one of a kind furniture - but in our defense, our senior dog is in a diaper 24/7 and paralyzed which is less destructive to material things. He could’ve saved both of us the tour and had just given us the key to our room....
Read moreWith all the bloviating "lifestyle brands" competing for your attention, please take time to consider this remarkable shop led by an incredible team of warm, thoughtful experts in design and curated ambience. We have purchased many products here, from their jewel-toned cushions to candles, fragrances, glassware, and even their heirloom quality "Louise Bed" (even better than the photos). The Shop is a beautiful oasis on W. 16th Street in Manhattan, and the team there applies absolutely zero sales pressure while receiving guests. The entire experience feels like spending time with old friends who happen to have stunningly gorgeous products available if you're interested -- very relaxed. The follow-up customer service is impeccable, and genuinely shared -- something that takes getting used to for those of us accustomed to waiting for the catch to any display of commercial generosity. The Maker Shop enjoys our strongest recommendation, a place we will continue to visit in the...
Read moreThe Maker has been on my block for the past year or so and I was a little reluctant to go in because it's so beautiful and gorgeous from the outside. Now, let. me just say that this is NOW my go-to spot for gifts (esp for picky people). I had to go to a birthday party and get a gift for a new male friend who I didn't know so well. The staff was super helpful with selecting a candle (the garden tomato scent). As it turns out, the friend was a huge fan of Maker and he loved the gift more than the Gucci wallet, but that's besides the point. I've also sampled their jams (delicious) and am a recent purchaser of the same candle and perfume. This is a great choice for that super picky person who has everything or that random new friend you want to send a warm friendly not over the top gesture of...
