This place is on my way home after my daughters class so I decided to give it a try. it's pretty much tap the screen only unless you have a question then maybe the owner or whoever she is will come and help you out. They have little to no vegetarian options, but I always keep it simple And order a veg noodle on the menu. I figured they are new and I will show some support with my business. They offer this dish with a very thick noodle & i always ask for the same exact thing. an angel hair like thinner noodle. every time I come in even if they have a different server I specify that I'd like a thinner noodle. Im coming in like 2 times a week and always ordering the same exact dish. W a thinner noodle. so this time I ordered two of the same one for myself and one for my daughter. I specified again, an angel hair like thin noodle. (Just in case) But this time they brought me a diff noodle not the noodle i usually get. The whole point is when I said, I usually ask for a much thinner noodle... the manager who has seen me several times ordering the same dish.. was basically confused didn't understand what I was asking for. Didn't want to accommodate me. Didn't even want to bring me a different dish which I said you know what just leave one for my daughter but if you could just get me what i ordered ( same thing every time) would really appreciate it. They made such a big deal about it. Brought the cook to ask what the problem was while both him and the manager are telling me i didnt specify etc and they were unwilling to compromise! . Finally i said leave 1 dish but please get me a thin noodle for the other. manager was still shaking her head & Didn't know what to do in fact, the server apparently told her she would eat the returned dish & the manager made her sit right there and eat it. My point is when they brought my dish out they gave me HALF the amount of the actual dish with a lot less vegetables and half the amount of noodles. Looks like they're cutting corners and didn't want to accommodate someone that has been coming in regularly. The manager made me feel very uncomfortable about it and I will not...
Read moreI came here for dinner, yesterday (7/7/2024) on a date with my partner and was initially very excited, as I was looking forward to soup dumplings. When we came in, the hostess did not make eye contact or smile, and sat us in a corner, squeezed next to a man who kept twitching and looking at us. When she took our order, she was impatient and short. Initially, we thought the situation was kind of funny. After a while we asked to move tables (once again, she squeezed us into a corner, when the entire restaurant was empty) to which she seemed annoyed and and gestured to another table, left us to bring our own drinks which is expected, but did not bring us new plates OR tell us we were fine to grab the ones of the table next to us, which we did anyway. The food was mid at best, and was just slammed on our table with no acknowledgment. Initially, we thought the service was just kinda lackluster, and then we believed she was just rude, and then we realized the establishment was either racist (I am a black woman and my partner is a hispanic man) or doesn’t like young patrons (?) which is odd. A set of two white gentleman came in after us, whom the hostess sat near us, not in the corner we were in initially, and was very polite and helpful with that table, yet we saw her face immediately drop when she came to give us our check. I’m aware that many reviews this low are biased, but this is my first time ever leaving a review because of how disgusted and hurt I feel. Our check came out to 63.15 and my partner left $64 on the table in cash. I hate to give you a tip at all, but maybe next time you’ll learn to not blatantly treat customers with disregard, and rather keep it to yourself for professionalism or fix your biases. I will not be coming back here and would never recommend anyone else, particularly BIPOC because the food is honestly not good enough to deal with the...
Read moreWe had intended on going to our favourite Thai restaurant, but saw that Shorty Tang had opened up recently, close by, so decided to give it a try instead. I'd heard that the original Shorty Tang restaurant was the one that introduced NYC to the cold sesame noodle dish so wanted to try out the original version. Having had it at other Chinese restaurants I'd quite liked it, but because they were for a Cantonese audience the spiciness had been taken out. The cook for Shorty Tang is of Taiwanese origin and his version is spicy.
So, we decided to go for the aforementioned cold spicy sesame noodles, fried turnip cakes, Chau Siu Bau (Taiwanese style), Xiao Long Bao and sticky rice short rib.
The noodles were good and only lightly spicy, which was perfect for our taste buds as we're not fans of too spicy foods. I suspect people who like a lot of spice may not find it spicy at all - ask for more chile sauce! The Xiao Long Baos were nice, though two of them were punctured and lost their soup before we got them.
Not so good were the other three plates. The fried turnip cakes were way too salty on the outside, the Char Siu was a little tough and the sticky rice short ribs were odd. It's maybe because I'm used to the Cantonese version of the last dish rather than the Taiwanese version, but there wasn't a lot of sticky rice with the short ribs and the rice texture seemed more mushy than sticky.
So, a little hit and miss, but I'd go back for the spicy sesame cold noodles, just not some of the other dishes.
The wait staff were all very nice and efficient, the restaurant itself was decorated in an understated, pleasant way and it was easy to have a conversation as it was pretty quiet, with very few patrons whilst we were there. And it was reasonably priced for something outside of one of...
