This is a tiny little hole-in-the-wall club. It comes across as unused space that belongs to the Monarch which is right next door and I think also uses the same address. This is so confusing because they both operate at the same time and The Wood Shop doesn't have any kind of signage outside at all. If you don't already know where you're going, you have to ask one of the many security people standing outside in this little strip which door you're supposed to use for your event. Fortunately they're all used to it because nobody knows where the hell they're supposed to go.
If I described this place as a bare-bones "club" I would be generous in doing so. If you've ever been to The Meadows (which is in the exact same spot and I believe owned by the same people), it's just like that but without the coat check, real bar, food, or really anything else. Perhaps you could say that it's "up and coming".
Regardless, I go here often because there is often a DnB DJ and I'll go anywhere I can find one of those. They usually have a shit beer selection and I couldn't comment on the mixed drinks other than to say that they come in tiny plastic cups jam packed with ice. It's all expensive.
The only bathroom is coed, there are three stalls, and in newly typical NY fashion, there are no bloody mirrors. This trend sucks, but this is just yet another venue to add to my already long-ass list of places that doesn't want to let me reapply my lipgloss without a great...
Read moreI want to like this venue more than I do 😭 This is really a 3.5 stars. Let's start with what I don't like and then move to what I do... The layout is... Weird. An L shape. And if you don't know where the entrance is it's easy to walk past it (Look for a BLUE DOOR between Meadows and Monarch). Parking in the area can be.... Annoying. If there's things going on at all three venues. The drink prices are... Painful. To say the least, unless you buy the cheap crappy stuff (which I can't have due to allergens). It's usually too loud near the stage and then reasonable in the back...so often times everyone will be in the back. However! The sound IS good. The stage is a decent enough size. Lighting also checks. The bartenders and security are always the nicest/coolest. I've never had a bad experience at the venue, it's just not...
Read moreI was there for Westbound Train & Kill Lincon show and I must say the venue vibe is so good. It is a small venue but I like how cozy it is. I feel like I am at my friend’s house. The stage takes up about half of the space, but you're actually using around two-thirds of the area. It's clear that the place is still under construction, but it gave me a punk vibe — which I find really sincere...
