I recently paid $270 to have my iPhone screen replaced at uBreakiFix, only to find out afterward that using a non-authentic screen invalidated my AppleCare. Apple now refuses to service my phone—even for unrelated issues—due to this unauthorized repair. Making matters worse, FaceID stopped working, my battery drains faster, and the touchscreen is less responsive.
When I contacted uBreakiFix, they acknowledged the problem but said there was nothing they could do, leaving me with a phone that Apple won’t repair and no way to fix the issues caused by their screen replacement. Between the ruined device, lost AppleCare coverage, and poor customer support, I feel I’ve been scammed out of both my money and time.
Bottom line: Avoid this business at all costs. Their unauthorized repairs can leave you with a damaged phone and no recourse from Apple. Save your money—and your device—by steering clear of this company.
Update (Response to the Company’s Reply Below): I’m disappointed by the store’s inaccurate account, as it directly contradicts my experience: AppleCare Never Mentioned: I was never explicitly asked about AppleCare. Instead, the staff had me enter my information on a website—which doesn’t reflect AppleCare coverage—and then concluded I had no insurance. No Warranty Offer or Upgrade Option at First: After the phone malfunctioned, I was told there was nothing the store could do. I was the one who proposed paying the difference for an Apple screen. At the time, this suggestion was refused by the store. Misleading Public Response: The store now publicly implies they offered me a warranty remedy or an upgrade path beforehand. That simply isn’t true, and I have no confidence in their honesty or willingness to stand behind their work.
I stand by my original review and strongly recommend steering clear of this business. There are more transparent, reliable options out there for device repairs.
Update in response to Peter’s latest response: Peter, you can give me a call directly. The young man who answered the phone at your store that Sunday afternoon on March 30 not only declined to fix the FaceID issue which was caused by installing the OEM screen, and not only refused to offer to swap for an Apple screen for the difference in cost (he repeated “sorry, there’s nothing I can do to help you”): He also did not facilitate my discussing with you directly. I specifically asked when I could call back to be in touch with the owner and the young man directly stated that your availability has been unpredictable and that he could also not assist me in getting a...
Read moreI want to express my appreciation for this particular uBreakiFix store. Since I've lived here in New York I've visited several stores. This is the best right here in New York city's Greenwich village. Nicole is in manager and I watched her on a regular daily basis work with customers be able to work on somebody else's phone answer the phone and give 100% customer care. Nicole is exactly who she is. When you meet her that is exactly the person you will continue to experience. She is professional and respectful at all times. No matter what the incoming to her is which is usually frustration sadness anger fear all of the things that someone's phone can cause on a personal and emotional level. The owner of this store peter, should absolutely give this star one employee and the other gentleman I don't remember his name a raise they deserve it they work 100% for customer care and I have had the opportunity to experience both of them when I had been dealing with the phone crisis for over a week. And I'm still dealing with asurion and AT&t to complete my phone issues. But you break I fix ordered what I needed and took care of the issue and gave me back a great return issue completed, case closed and wonderful pleasant customer care which is 100% service and so hard to find. Truly good people represent this you break I fix store 96 Greenwich. Thank you all from the bottom...
Read moreI was sent here from Jersey by Asurion to replace my screen. After a long commute in the cold, I was told that they will have it done in 2 hours. The tech went in the back and made a call. All of the calls they took were on speaker so you can hear the whole conversation. The tech asked a guy if he was coming today and the guy said he's coming Monday to fix his phone screen. Apparently we had the same screen. The guy said he has until the 14th to come in. I had until the 10th which was the day I was there. The guy begged the tech to hold the screen and promised to "tip him well". He then said "you know who I am"?. The tech said, "you're the guy from yesterday". The guy continued to bribe him with tips after the tech told him he had to give the screen to another customer. Eventually the tech gave in after agreeing to fix my screen, then came out and told me he can no longer fix it because his manager said to hold the screen for another customer. He told me I had to call asurion and it was nothing he could do. Terrible customer service. He wasn't even apologetic about it or solution oriented. It's too many places in the area to go here....
