If you're a fan of maps, New York, and/or unusual visual expressions of collected data, RUN, don't walk, to this hidden gem of a gallery on W.14th St. The exhibit closes on November 15th, and is not to be missed! I've posted some photos I took onsite, but they are but a pale comparison to the real thing. The idea behind this exhibit, "You Are Here NYC: Art, Information, and Mapping," is to take dry-as-dust statistics and turn them into visual representation---and the artists do a bang-up job. Other fascinating items: two maps, both tracking Tweets originating in the five boroughs during a certain time period, one labeled, "Hate," and one, "Love;" a visual and auditory representation of the classic NYC subway map; a computer graphic illustration of the layout of all NYC streets (hint: it looks more like a hairy ink drawing!); and everyday city sounds fossilized into a wood sculpture. And there's more....be prepared to...
