Uncle Steve’s Marketplace — Local services in New York

Even one-star is overrated.

This is hands down the worst convenience store experience I’ve ever had.

On Sep 30th around 9:20 pm, I spent $15.32 here. I paid with my card and left, only to be called back by the clerk saying my payment “failed.” I came back, tried again, and when it didn’t work, I used another card. That one went through.

Two days later, I checked my accounts and saw both cards had been charged $15.32. I had clear proof from my Apple Wallet showing two charges — one at 9:19 pm, and another at 9:20 pm. So I went back to the store expecting a simple refund. Instead, the owner refused to help, told me to “dispute it with the bank,” and even had the nerve to accuse me of being a thief trying to take advantage of them.

This is beyond unprofessional — it’s insulting. Instead of owning up to their mistake, they treated me like garbage.

To everyone reading this: NEVER shop here. Their business practices are shady, their customer service is disgraceful, and their management is outright hostile.

Best place in the area to buy produce! Lots of seasonal and exotic fruits, I get to eat fresh lychee all summer from here. Great prices on fruit and lots of sales so I can stock up and freeze extras. They also have an in-house butcher but sometimes they don’t do the best job at cutting the meats. Still, good prices on meat and I still buy it from here if I’m short on time. Good snack and instant noodle selection as well, I rarely go to supermarkets because Uncle Steve’s already has just about everything!

Update as of 11/24 they now sell beer!! All they need to do is sell cigarettes and then I wont have to shop anywhere else! I know about half of the staff by name, they take great care of me and my partner, and one time they even invited me to eat with them. Incredible hospitality, above and beyond for a corner store. HANDS DOWN THE BEST PRODUCE SPOT I’VE EVER BEEN TO. And I come from a family where my father owned a produce business in Brooklyn for 38 years. So I know fresh merchandise when I see it. Not only are all the products here PHENOMENAL A1 quality, the people here are all SUPER kind, honest, helpful, generous, and humble. Not to mention the unbelievably good prices. This was my first time here, and I’d be crazy to go anywhere else ever again. I really don’t know other words to say, or how to express my gratitude enough for everyone here, and their unmatched, honorable service and merchandise.
