Upper East Side Thrift Shop — Local services in New York

I’ve donated here before and occasionally shop, but it’s time for a reset. The store is clearly overstocked, with items crammed into every corner and no clear separation between donations and priced merchandise. The register area is buried under piles of stuff, making it impossible to see any specialty items behind the counter. The front is completely bottlenecked due to lack of space planning.

Last year, I donated a lamp you priced at $100. It sat unsold for over a year and eventually left for under $25. That’s not just bad pricing. It’s a reminder that square footage has value. Space is worth more than stagnant inventory.

Also worth noting, if you inadvertently search through items that haven’t been priced yet (which, again, are mixed in with everything else), the staff will scold you like you're stealing. It’s not a great look when the layout sets people up to fail and then punishes them for it.

It’s time for a big clearance sale. Get the slow movers out, clean up the layout, and create breathing room. You are not running a museum. Move product or move it out.

Giving two stars because I like the convenient location for donation drop off since the goodwill further down closed and the workers here are kind. But the prices are all over the place. You’ll occasionally get a good deal, but most of the time it feels like you’re being ripped off so they can pay the rent. It’s also a pretty awful layout compared to the one on First Ave and very messy. Would recommend for donations, but can’t say I’d recommend that...
