I am the Bishop of a local ward and can tell you this service is provided largely by volunteer hours. Those who are dishonest will always find a way to backdoor any system, we know it will happen, and certainly the Lord knows. They will be held accountable by Him, so we don't focus on that.
Instead, we focus on helping those who under certain circumstances need help. All of these resources are to be used wisely, and they are provided as a short term means to fill the occasional gap that happens in life, for example layoffs, or loss of hours at work because of legitimate illness. It's not intended to be a long term solution and Bishops help protect these sacred resources but also order the distribution of them. It's an act of mercy for the honest and the dishonest alike.
Why not go to your local bishop? The Lord expects us to learn how to honestly provide for ourselves and those who discharge this responsibility will be held accountable by the Lord himself. He knows. In the meantime, we, the imperfect people & bishops, are doing the best we know how with His resources -and that is all that He has...
Read moreI was disappointed for the main fact that if someone is in need and has a baby with them they shouldn't be rudely told if they want food they have to talk to a bishop to get on a list! I was raised believing that if someone is in need you help them...I was helping 2 people that day by using my car and my gas to take them to get their food...I think the most aggravating part was as we were following around my neighbor that can hardly breathe we ended up stopping by some bananas and my 1 year old grandson was hungry and reached out to get one and we were told your not on the list...that was pretty heartless in my opinion!!! This is a church!!! If someone is hungry I feel you should feed them...isn't that what Jesus did??? I've never been treated like that by a church before ☹☹☹😠😠😠 pure heartless I also don't believe that someone has to belong to a certain church to get help if they need it!!! To some it up very...
Read moreThey will help you but it's true, you have to go to your Bishop first, if you're a member, so he can arrange for an order. It's just their process. If everyone went directly to the storehouse to fill out an order, it would require a lot of special staffing to fill out and approve so many orders. Like everything, there are procedures to make things run smoothly. Also, the Bishop is there for the whole neighborhood he is assigned for. Not just members. If one turns you away, that is wrong and not how it's supposed to be.
The only thing I don't like is when they take extended long weekends. Like this weekend, closed Friday through Monday. So if you're in need, you have to wait 5 days and even my RS president didn't realize they were closed for an extended time. They still provide an excellent service that is much needed. Like anything, it's...
