Iām a former Palm Springs resident and I occasionally go back to support the Arts happening in the area and unique small businesses. Iām a fan of Glen Hansonās artwork and have known of this establishment to sell tons of his images in different formats. For my birthday, my White male friend decided to take me for a visit, back to my old stomping grounds and to this store in particular. This visit was to get something to add to my collection of Hansonās creations and I wanted to purchase greeting cards that you wouldnāt find anywhere else. Me and my friend were happy for the store, seeing that business had picked up! However, the very cool reception I received from the first employee I encountered after I gave him a warm hello, started to make the shopping experience go downhill. I proceeded to look through cards I wanted to choose and then was rudely pushed out of the way by what I thought was another shopper. I let it go. As I became more aware of my surroundings, I discovered that rude person was an employee and he and the first employee I encountered were following me around as if I were going to run off with the store. I was made to feel very uncomfortable, being the only person of color there. I went to find my friend to get what we were getting and make our way out of there! When we got to the checkout counter, even the person at the register had the most sour attitude and the other two had come to stand behind him, glaring at me with the same attitude. It really made me angry, on a day I was supposed to be rejoicing. Racial profiling doesnāt look good on your business guys. It also does bad business for the artist we are trying to support. I wonder how many sales you have lost for the artist because of your really terrible customer service to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI admit that I did not see any kind of signage that photos were prohibited in the store and had made the mistake of trying to take a photo. I had seen something upon walking into the store that I thought a friend would like and wanted to send him a photo to see if I should get it for him. As soon as I pulled out my phone an employee yelled at me (after not greeting me or any of my friends after we walked in and said hello). I apologized quickly and put my phone away. Again, I totally understand that rules are rules but I honestly hadn't seen the sign about taking no photos. My feedback is just to be a bit more courteous to your customers; our group felt so taken aback and uncomfortable we left a few minutes later without purchasing anything.
EDIT: Not really sure why Iāve received such a snarky and mean-spirited reply from the owner. I donāt think being asked to not be yelled at in a store is asking for a lot? Sure, I get being hard of hearing but I can also read tone and have a good enough grasp of the English language to know that different words could have been used. I understand I made an oblivious mistake and I apologized in the moment and apologize again for it. And somehow mentioning that we received no return greeting after our entire group said hello is tantamount to asking for our shoes to be shined? I feel like I was just providing feedback on common courtesy. I donāt think expecting someone to say hello back to you is entitled lol And not sure it warrants being yelled at and certainly doesnāt warrant such a negative response. And the fact that I stepped into the store with the intention to buy something for my friend means I wanted to support a small and local...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited the Palm Springs area this past week with my family and friends. This store caught my eye while walking down the street visiting all of the different shops and food places downtown palm springs had to offer. They had these really cool coasters with old sitcoms on them in the window so I went inside to see what else they had to offer. I ended up getting The Jeffersons and a Presidential Coaster. The gentlemen working that day were really welcoming and kind. Fast forward to the weekend I decided to go back and purchase some more coasters with my friends and family this time it wasn't a pleasant experience as soon as we walked in all the staff that was all white kept following us through the entire store and kept watching us as we made our way to look at the items that they had. If I had known that they can't trust me or anyone in my group but could take our money I would've returned the items that I had purchased earlier in the week. I told the woman at the counter to cancel the items that I was planning to purchase because the man following us made us extremally uncomfortable. But I do advise anyone that is a person of color and not white to shop elsewhere. If you go down the street there is this store called Just Fabulous the owner and staff are very kind and welcoming in their store and they treat you as a valued shopper and not some thief trying to pull one over on them. But if you are looking to be profiled as you shop in the palm springs downtown area this...
