I used to think so much about this gym and I always looked forward to workout here. I only live in Peoria two months in the summers and during Christmas, so it was very convenient for me to buy their month long passes/week long passes here and there. While the equipment is in top shape and the place is exceptionally clean, they have a very strict policy about people working out together, that they do not disclose to the public. My 3 month pass expires tomorrow and for the last 2 weeks I’ve been lifting here with a friend, who just so happens to have an excercise science degree. Neither of us have EVER sneaked in once and we have always bought their overpriced shakes at the end of our workout. In my past two years of lifting at this gym I have personally seen people sneak in a countless amount of times and not one worker has ever done or said ANYTHING about it.Today, this particular Golds Gyms’ franchise owner suspected my friend of training me in order to profit money. While he was correct that my friend was giving me proper instruction on how to lift heavy weight, he was incorrect and extremely unprofessional to suspect us of not having “gym etiquette” because of the fact that I was receiving unpaid instruction from him, while the both us were getting a great workout in. I will NEVER be returning to any Golds’ Gym within the Peoria/Morton/ Pekin area. The owner addressed his concern to us in a very unprofessional manner ! At this particular location, I can name a handful of people that DO infact practice the type of unethical behavior and profit money from multiple clients. In that case, the owner would have every right to go after these people and get in their face. But, he doesn’t ! The owner saved that type of inappropriate behavior for two guys just trying to get the best out of their limited time...

In fairness everyone is nice and always smiles! I love how i dont feel rushed cause there is plenty of equipment for everyone. I hate rushing especially when i see big guys hovering. But since there arw lots of equipment or machines, i am able to do everything i need to.
I could spend a whole day in the gym because there is so much to do and i can also chill at the sauna. I love how theyve got almost wvery machine for every muscle group. They also have bumper plates olympic plates. I love that when i deadlift, even when it gets too heavy for me and i drop the barbell, i dont get weird looks. Im not trying to show off, its just dangerous for me to try and drop it gracefully. They have a deadlifting platform.
I have sensitive skin and im glad im not breaking out in hives when i workout because the place is clean.every member wipes the equipmemt after every use.
Theres a health bar in front. I have yet to try their shakes or protein bars though. I think theyre reasonably priced.
No one rushes me in the bathroom or shower rooms either. I spend hours there doing my hair sometimes.
The music is not the greatest though. They tune in on a certain fm station on the radio. I dont mind because i have my ownn earphones anyway.
Its a plus that whenever i forget to bring my water bottle, i can always hydrate at the drinking fountain.
The people are nice. Even those big muscly guys and girls dont mind you or dont look at you weird even jf you are a beginner. Also dont be intimidated because almost everyone here looks like an athletw

Read moreTrying to stay healthy and fit while on the road is already difficult, and having 2 gym memberships is not cheap. to make sure I have a place to stop and get a workout in and use the showers.
I have had a golds membership since 2017 and have been pleased by the facilities both local where I live in TN and the other Golds gym I have visited while on the road(Truck driver). The travel pass is nice since I'm on the road 20 days out of the month and still get value out of my membership. Unfortunately, the Peoria Golds that I stop at a couple of times a month that is Franchise owned just informed me they only allow 14 visits a year using travel pass, and then you have to get THERE Golds membership. Highly disappointed in that practice, you have the Golds Gym logo. A person shouldn't have to have multiple gold memberships to get a workout in an area they don't live in. Planet fitness has the black card. You pay a little extra to use all the PF facilities, which is reasonable. I'm not paying for a whole other membership to visit a franchise location that has the same affiliation as my home gym, regardless of franchise or corporate ownership. I have enjoyed knowing that I had the Peoria gym available as a stopping point to use the equipment and the very nicely kept facilities. If they offered a pro-rated cost for already having a Golds membership and how infrequent I have the ability to use their facility, a reasonable charge like PF does than I would be happy to pay and continue to use their...
