Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The owners are local people in a small restaurant. I have eaten here a few times and it is one of my highlights when I visit. The food is Indonesian and the closest to Malaysian food.
This visit I ordered the lamb satay and the Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang. Also ordered their freshly squeezed lemonade which was good! They also have some “cookies/snacks” you can pick up. I picked up their semprong which in Malaysia we know it as “love letters or Kuih Kapit”.
I think their Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang is pretty good but they need to slow cook their beef rather than the fast cook to get the flavors infused into their beef. Love the achar that comes with it and the fried sweet anchovies!
Their lamb satay was good but a bit dry. They use high quality lamb which is good but I think a bit more “fatty” lamb would be better to give it better texture and flavor!
It’s a small business and they mainly encourage you to use cash payments. There is a 4% surcharge they tack on if you pay with credit card to cover their processing fee with the credit card company. I saw a Venmo QR code also at the front cashier. Not sure if they are encouraging that as a payment option or is it just for certain things.
Restroom was pretty clean but needs some sprucing up. Maybe some updates but it fits the decor of the business area.
Dining furniture fits the feeling of being in Malaysia or Indonesia. Parking is an issue as you battle the small lot for the grocery store and other businesses in the area for spots.
Overall a great experience and I would support them frequently...

In a city that offers a seemingly endless variety of delicious food, Sky Cafe stands out as one of the very best my husband and I had the pleasure to try so far. Our recent meal here was the first introduction we've had to Indonesian food. Having read the reviews in advance, I was expecting it to be good — but I wasn't expecting to fall so deeply and immediately in love with this cozy neighborhood gem. The fried chicken was crisp & juicy, the coconut rice was buttery with a satisfying texture, the sauce & marinade on each of the eggs was unique & satisfying, the pickles were crisp & refreshing, and the vegetable curry was a stand-out knocked-out-of-the-park home run. The fact that I didn't know exactly what I was eating most of the time didn't lessen my enjoyment of it in the least, and I really just could go on endlessly about how much I loved this meal.
100% would recommend Sky to anyone. I am so looking forward to returning for another amazing meal, and for the opportunity to introduce friends and family to a new (to us) cuisine!
Update: I returned and tried takeout this time. The food travels well — it was just as delicious as on my last visit. Points for consistency! Plus, the portions seem to be the same as they serve to those dining in. Very very happy I found this place.
Update update: Been back 2 more times, and haven't had a bad (or even mediocre) dish yet! I'll continue working my way through the menu and posting...
Read moreI went there yesterday with some friends. I tried batagor, sate padang, lontong sayur, iga bakar and nasi bungkus.
First of all. I live in Queens, NY. They have the same sky cafe here in Elmhurst. So, don't blame me if I have to make the comparison.
First. Batagor. Perfect. I'll praise the sauce itself making it best taste. Second, sate padang. The meat itself pretty much nice and also the sticky rice, now let's talk about the sauce. Too plain, it needs a lil bit flavour, if you don't want make it too flavoured, just add slightly more flavoured would be nice.
Third. Lontong Sayur. Sorry to sat, this actually the main reason I want to come, because the one in Queens, the best best best best Lontong Sayur I ever tried here in the United States, so I was expecting at least the same taste, but it failed us.
Fourth. Nasi bungkus. Same. I eas expecting the same taste as one in Queens, but it's not even close to. I didn't even finished the food.
Fifth. Iga Bakar. Well, I have to give applause to this one. Despite giving a very big portion of those ribs, the sauce itself. Spectacular. Blend well when you eat the iga with the sauce. Perfect. It came along with the soup. Honestly speaking. Soup taste big no.
So. Those all from me. Seriously. Lontong Sayur is really a big disappointment. That was what I heard Sky Cafe...
