I stopped by for a deluxe pho and was pretty pleased overall. The bowl was generously sized, packed with a variety of meats that made for a hearty meal. The broth’s flavor was lighter and less intense than what I usually go for, but it still had a clean, pleasant taste that worked well with the fresh herbs and noodles. The noodles themselves were cooked just right — tender but not mushy.
The restaurant offers plenty of seating with a spacious interior, which makes it comfortable even during busier times. It’s mostly a self-service setup: you order at the counter, food arrives quickly, and you pour your own water from a small jug on the table. This keeps things efficient and casual.
Authenticity was clear — the majority of customers were Asian, and the flavors definitely matched up with what I’d expect from a genuine pho spot. That said, I did notice some hygiene issues. Unfortunately, there were cockroaches in the seating area, and one even crawled right behind me on the cushion seating. That was pretty unsettling and definitely a drawback.
Another minor annoyance is the extra service charge if you pay by credit card, which is becoming more common but still worth noting.
Next time, I’m planning to try their pho with the giant rib meat. I saw another customer get it, and it looked incredibly appetizing — thick, tender ribs swimming in the broth.
In summary, the food and service were great, and the atmosphere casual and comfortable. Just hoping they can improve on cleanliness to make this spot a...
Read moreI recently visited Pho Today in Philadelphia with my niece, who has a more refined palate and was interested in trying something outside her usual comfort zone. She chose Bún bò Huế, a Vietnamese noodle soup dish with spicy beef and pork. She thought the soup was pretty good—different from what she’s used to. Initially, she felt the flavors could be enhanced, but after adding some sauces and spices, she described it as flavorful with a unique taste and just the right hint of spice. I tried the broth myself and found it very flavorful. Since I’m used to eating soups like this, I thought it was pretty good overall.
I ordered the shrimp tempura, which came with four nice-sized portions of tempura shrimp and a dipping sauce. The shrimp were decent—nothing extraordinary, but solid in flavor and cooked well.
When we entered the restaurant, we were warmly greeted and given menus. The person taking our order was very kind and patient as we took our time. Since it was our first time there, he recommended some different beverages, though we decided to skip drinks this time.
The dining area was spacious and bright, with plenty of room and a good number of customers dining in. Overall, it had a welcoming atmosphere. I’d definitely come back to explore more of their menu options—Pho Today is worth checking out if you’re looking for...
Read moreSo, today is Chinese new year and my family and I decided to stop in based off of a recommendation from my brother in law.
The restaurant is huge! We walked in during lunch and it was probably 80% occupied. We were told that there would be a couple minute wait for a party of 5.
I headed to the bathroom and seen my brother in law! The staff (Thank Jimmy) was able to add us to their party. We then became a party of 19!
I got the P2 pho bowl. It came with a huge piece of beef rib and another bone. It was not like anything that I've had in Philadelphia. It was a sharing portion of protein. The broth was above average, but I wish it was pipping hot! That's my only knock on the bowl of pho.
I got water and hot tea to drink, but the tea was luke warm. The water was ice cold.
Overall, I was very impressed with Pho Today and I'm very glad to see them on the Philadelphia scene.
Thanks again Jimmy and we'll...
