Jason Matthew Salon — Local services in Philadelphia

I have been going to Jason Mathew for a while, but for my wedding hair appointment it turned out to be a disappointing customer service experience. My stylist was busy with another client and had 2 assistant gloss my hair. No problem. He comes up to me during my second round of gloss stating he can’t work with me because his previous client is here for her wedding hair but traveled from another state to get here, so if I was okay with it, another stylist would cut my hair. He reiterated that he would only give me someone he trust, so trusting him I agreed even though I’m wanted to work with him. He never checked up on me afterwards to see if the coloring was good or check in afterwards before he left for the day.

The stylist that took over was nice but come to find out she just started there a week prior… not her fault for the situation at all, but then at check out, the receptionist wanted to charge me the higher rate from the original stylist. I went on to explain that he never did anything with my hair. They agree to take off $10 of a $180 bill to honor the second stylist pricing. Again, not the fault of the second stylist. But I feel manipulated and was not cared about my time and importance of this appointment by the original stylist. The previous client’s wedding is not more important than my wedding. The lack of customer service from him and the receptionist really made the appointment so disheartening. It’s just sad to not honor someone’s appointment that was booked months before and not even check up on them.

I’m giving two stars because at the end of the day, the color turned out good and the cut was fine. But I’m disappointed in the customer...

I absolutely love Jason & his entire team! I found the salon after moving to Philly from Toronto and Jason is absolutely one of nicest/caring people I have ever met. True story. Such a caring individual who has spent days where he stayed hours after closing just to accommodate us and ensure we were completely happy. Every time we have discussed a certain look/idea, he has nailed it each time and has never left me feeling even the slightest unsatisfied. You can tell that he truly is passionate about what he does and truly cares about his clients. I actually moved away from Philly and down to Boca Raton FL. After trying to find a new salon for several months and not being happy with the few I tried... I realized that there really wasn't anyone else who made me happier than Jason and makes me feel so good about myself every time I leave his salon. I now fly back every several weeks solely to see Jason and have him do my hair... he's that worth it and he's that good, that he's worth the flight ;) Even his staff are truly talented and he has built an amazing group of talented folks. I am a pretty picky person and have not so easy to meet standards at times...lol... I can say that this salon meets them all. Thank you so much for coming...

I wasn't going to write a review but i'm still upset about my hair. I had a lot of hair come out after they bleached it and noticed it when the assistant was brushing out my hair. I understand its normal for a small amount of hair to shed after getting colored and then brushed out. But i have NEVER in all my years getting my hair done seen that much hair on a brush after getting foils/bleached. Then when i went home more hair was breaking off. Additionally she was double booked and then left for the assistants to mainly check my hair, tone it, and move me around. I was moved out of my original seat with all my stuff still over there so this lady and her dog can sit there and get service and was moved to blow dry my hair in another seat (they wanted to charge an additional $55 for a brow dry, which as a hair stylist wouldn't you want to fully dry your clients hair after to make sure your work is good?) She came over and only dried my bangs and after that i felt like i was being rushed out of there and didn't get a chance to finish drying my hair myself. For someone who spends hundreds and views getting their hair done as self care time it wasn't relaxing and disappointing how damaged my hair...
