World Market — Local services in Phoenix

I had a really disappointing experience at this World Market location. I found a patio umbrella I wanted on their website, which showed three in stock at the store. I drove there, found the umbrella in a clearance bin, and carried it around the store while shopping. When I finally went to check out—after waiting behind another customer while four employees stood around doing nothing—someone from that group that watched me stand in line until it was my turn finally approached me, not to ring me up, but to say, “Are you wanting to buy this? (Isn't that obvious!?) It’s already sold.” How utterly rude, lazy, and weird.

There was no sign on it, no hold tag, nothing indicating it was spoken for. It was just sitting in a clearance bin. Honestly, it felt like the employee may have wanted to buy it herself after her shift. The whole thing came off as incredibly unprofessional and, frankly, suspicious—possibly even discriminatory. Why would you stand there watching me stand in line until I was being rang up and then come over like a weirdo and take it out of my hands? Not even an apology. Seemed to be showing off for her other 3 lazy coworkers. Unbelievably rude approach. IF it was sold...perhaps an apology and explanation that you stand around doing nothing rather than your job, unfortunately resulting in merchandise being presented in the store that isn't actually for sale, would have helped. Odd people.

I contacted customer service afterward, hoping someone might actually look into what happened. Instead, I got a generic response within hours on a Saturday night saying how “valuable” my feedback was. Not only was the response impersonal and dismissive, but it also referenced an issue I hadn’t even mentioned, because I didn't have it. Clearly, no one took the time to actually read my message or investigate.

Extremely disappointing from a brand I used to enjoy. Let's see if another robot tells me how valuable this feedback is while doing nothing to look into or rectify the terrible service.l - but assuring...

I used the curbside pickup after ordering a blanket online. I was buying a specific color to match some other items I owned. I trusted that they gave me the correct item without opening the box as there were other customers waiting at curbside & I was worried about getting out of the car.

I got home & discovered it was a similar style but not something that would match. The store associate was very nice on the phone. She offered to help me out the next day if I returned the item.

At the curbside, she worked hard to find the correct blanket. I realize that part of the problem was that the manufacturer did not really label the blankets so they could be easily switched.

You can see from the photos how close the colors were. I needed the blanket that was lighter in color, not as black.

I would probably give 5 stars, if I had not had to return the blanket.

One other thing to mention is that by buying this blanket, another blanket was donated to a homeless center, so there is less of a profit for the store on these items. Good that Cost Plus World Market supports...

What’s not to love about this place! They offer complimentary coffee, the merchandise is displayed well and is easy to access, and the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I appreciate the quality of the furniture and feel good purchasing products from this company knowing they are Fair Trade. I purchased 2 Adirondack rocking chairs and cushions and a colorful turquoise end table and have been enjoying the desert evenings in comfort and style. They have amazing goods from all over the world, the wine collection is top notch, the snacks make any gathering yummy, and the collection of cushions keeps my furniture looking fresh. The Christmas ornaments are probably my favorite. I pick a new one each year. I come here whenever I’m feeling stressed, which has been a lot the past 4 years, and after just a few minutes walking around in this happy sensory environment, eating a yummy snack or sipping a cold beverage from another country, feel better.
