Material Objects — Local services in Portland

Yesterday my son had a prom "emergency", that is to say his plan for a suit to wear fell through last minute. Apparently, there was never a plan for his shoes. So, there we were a couple hours before the big party! I said "let's manifest a miracle" and...."you have to trust me" (he wanted to go to the mall)....

We zipped down to Material Objects because I heard they had a great selection of men's items. Bingo! Not only did my 6'1" lanky son step into a super classy suit and have it fit like an Italian tailor custom measured, but in a flash, his feet were adorned with shiny and stylish shoes. But what made the day was that during the next hour when he tried on half the men's section to double check his decision, the STAFF WAS INCREDIBLE! They recognized our stress, our need for input & opinions, and even brought me a glass of water so I wouldn't collapse from exposure to teenage hysteria! A random older gentleman customer even tried to help my son tie his bow tie! The camaraderie made the crazed adventure one to remember as truly EPIC! The purchases we made at MO made history at his prom and the entire outfit including shoes and a fur coat (a la Game of Thrones!) were less than one crummy suit at the boring mall. I have been going to this store for nearly a decade. trust me, I DO NOT look like the typical client. I am a rough looking dude. SO, that is what thrills me about this store. EVERYONE that works there treats me totally awesome. they are some of the nicest ladies I know. no snobby stuff. I have purchased some really cool stuff for myself over the years. shoes, sneakers, boots (combat and cowboy), shirts, jackets, hats. all quality stuff in great condition. it's why i go. oh, jewelry too. I can buy "stuff" anywhere, but it's nice to walk into a store and have the people know your name. and, if you have seen my profile pic, you'll understand that comment even better. this is one of my favorite stores of all time. Always great clothings and selection of items, but the owner is rude and disrespectful every time, to myself and others. She makes rude comments to her customers. Her entitlement alone turns me away from purchasing anything. I’ve tried to give the store many chances, but every time I’ve been in I’ve witnessed her appalling behavior to her staff, other patrons, and myself. Most recently, I accidentally placed the clothes I tried on in an incorrect spot, and she said “I literally don’t get it, the sign is right there” and proceeded to begrudgingly move the clothes. I understand it was my mistake, but am perplexed why it warranted such an unkind response. Again, the store has a great selection of clothes, but her unkind demeanor speaks for itself.
